selling your handmades

Jun 01, 2005 2 Replies

ok, I'm ready to start trying to sell some of my projects. The problem is ... I don't know WHERE! I have checked ebay and ppl just don't get enough $$ for projects. I do NOT want to do craft shows in any way. I am making Market Bags, Hand Bags, sweaters, hats, other stuff that feels the need to be made at the time. Any suggestions? Do you sell your knits and crochets?

Your best bet might be a crafts boutique. Some states have an Arts and Crafts Guild that sells work done by members. Set the price to cover materials plus a fair rate for your time plus any sales commission, tax, etc. Include a good-looking tag that tells what the materials are (acrylic, wool, etc) and washing instructions, "handmade in USA" and sign your work.

Is there any kind of artists' co-op in your area? Or a weekly market? Some of our coffee shops have displays of local artisans work with contact phone numbers. Be prepared to pay some sort of commission to the owners of these places (except perhaps the market) and watch out as sometimes the commission is quite high.
