Sewing

I hate sewing. I hate sewing. I hate sewing. I mentioned earlier that I had to make an apron today. Pretty simple, you would think. I went to school to use the clothing lab, so that I could make a mess, clean it up, and not be interrupted. Well! This apron is a kind of pop-over-the-head, and quite long. No ties of elastic. However, what it

*does* have is bias made from the fabric. I worked for three hours! It is *NOT* finished! I have to go back tomorrow to get the thing done!

Did I mention that I *hate* sewing?????

LOL And, after all that, I finally decided that, tomorrow, I am off to the fabric store to buy me a large package of white bias tape, and to use that instead of the pattern-made strip, which is really ugly, and which still has raw edges, and which would take me hours to fold properly.

Hi Katherine,

Gee, and I thought I was the only one who hated to sew. I gave my sewing machine away so I don't have to do it. Can't stand it at all.

Hugs,

Nora

Katherine, I am smiling here, I thought I heard someone moan and groan a while a go and even some @#$% maybe the breaking of a needle or a thread. Girl it is time you learn to barter and trade sewing for something you are good at. What is the apron for, that you had to sew it, must be something special. I would have gone to the store and bought it if I hated sewing. Next time mail it out to me and I will sew it up....LOL

PS Hugs for your upcoming birthday, since I will not be here to tell you next week. now here is a suggestion ask for the darn apron for your birthday......(grin)

My machine is sitting here glaring at me as I type. I prefer to go to the clothing lab at school where there are no interruptions. At least then, I finish things!

LOL Thank you, Els. The thing is that it is a very specific apron, which has to be made. If you have time, go to the Simplicity site and look at design

is a real pain, especially for someone who just doesn't like sewing. When do you leave for Toronto?

See, the problem is that, if I don't do it, then it is added to the pile of another person who is already over-worked. So, since I *can*, I *do*. But I don't like it at all. Doing things like this helps me realize that I really don't need a new sewing machine, and that all my plans for taking up sewing after I retire are just dreams. I always wanted to be able to sew, to the extent that I took a course years and years ago. As long as I was in class, with a teacher watching me, I did fine. After that, life interfered, and I just never practiced it as I needed to. With any luck, this apron will be the last thing I will ever have to sew.

Thanks for the sympathy.

A pox on whoever selected that pattern - assuming it wasn't you. I've done tons of sewing in my life but never liked doing bias bindings.

I can and do sew and dressmake, but it is a bit like you, if I don't absolutely have to, then I dont...lol it's not the love of my life, much prefer to crochet knit or spin and weave..

I dont like felting from merino tops or anything really yet I don't mind knitting a bit and shoving it in the washer to full up. less mess than layering fleece I guess.

So I do sympathise completely with you, and am full of admiration for the fact that you tackled it, got it nearly finished and now have only to complete it. A mammoth task if you dont like doing it much isn't it?

No, I did not choose it! That being said, the apron is gorgeous, and will be very useful in the future. But for now, it is driving me mad. And I will never do bias bindings again! Hateful things!

THe trouble is that I want to. But I just don't like the process. I quite like the finished products.

That's a problem I can identify with. I don't necessarily want to sew, but sometimes I want to have sewn.

Actually, there are times when I want to have knitted, too: those huge projects that look nice but would take me years, some of the fascinating patterns that would take so long to do even a swatch that I don't even try them, really fabulous garments that I know I'd never get the use out of but would like to wear once or twice and all the other unstarted objects in my mental wistfulness bin.

Oooh I like the idea of a "mental wistfulness bin" It so beautifully describes wanting something, but not having the time/expertise/motivation to get it. Please Tamar may I use your phrase at appropriate moments? Love & higs Christine

Katherine, I would have loved to sew this for you! Quite a few years ago, a friend of mine gave me directions on easy-to-make bias tape. If I can find it, I will make a copy and send it to you.

Janise

PS. How soon do you need the apron?
