Everyone in Canada, have a great long weekend, a safe one and a sunny one, and a happy one, relax and enjoy
That is what I am going to do tomorrow. A friend is coming to pick me up and we are going to a huge rummage sale, Oh boy, that most likely will mean more yarns etc.
Happy Victoria day, with lots of fireworks

Have a great long weekend, Els (and everyone else in Canada). I am spending it doing my spring-cleaning. And after I get that done, I have to go to school and try to get caught up on a ton on paperwork. Thank God I have a long weekend, or I'd never get it all done!

Oh Katherine that does not sound like a Victoria holiday. Take some time out and sit in the sun, if indeed the sun will show out your way. Send some of that paper work here and I will make some origami hat out of them.

That sounds like a good idea, Els. I will rest and relax after I get my work done. With any luck, I will have Monday free. And there is no school on Monday, so I will be able to enjoy the holiday.
Hugs, Katherine

The sun is shining beautifully here in my part of Ontario. :o)
I've hung laundry out on the line to dry in the sun and fresh air, and Matthew is barbequing chicken and vegetables (in pouches) as I type this. The kitchen window is open to allow the warm air, the smell of the lilacs (just outside the kitchen window) and the yummy smells of the barbeque to drift in to me in the next room.
Our dogs have been outside most of the day (I put a big pot of cold water out in the shade for them) and they've been really enjoying it... basking in the sunshine, being nosey watching the neighbors, having a few things to say every-so-often just to let us know they're still there. And Matthew and I have been in and out most of the day too.
No big plans for fireworks though! :o/ Unfortunately they haven't done that here in our town for a few years... with the exception of a few people setting them off in their own yards. We used to do that too, when we lived in my parents' home with the huge side yard. But now, with three trees in our back yard... a pool behind the garage... the laneway on one side of the house, and the school parking lot on the other side of the house... we just don't have anywhere to set them off anymore. *sigh* Oh well, the town still has a fireworks display for Canada Day... so we'll just have to wait another 1 1/2 months.
Happy Victoria Day! :o)

Added note: We are also cleaning the pool today in preparation for the hot (we hope) upcoming summer! :o) Hopefully within the next two or three weeks we'll actually be able to use the pool.

Happy Victoria Day to all my Canadian friends here. I confess that I was ignorant about it until your message prompted me to look it up and see that it is on Monday.

Enjoy it while you can! There is ugly weather coming from the west ;>( We had a beautiful day on Friday.... then all it's done is pour rain. Ugh. Our yard looks like a rice paddy. We're all wondering out here (Manitoba), if we're going to have a lousy summer like last year.
This is the weekend most of us plant gardens, etc. It won't be happening.... maybe next weekend. I think I'm going back to bed and pulling the covers over my head. (sob)
Damp and mouldy in Manitoba.... Shelagh

Shelagh sorry for that wet and rainy weather. We have had that now for about a week or so.. Showers and sunshine, and when you do go out in the garden be prepared to dash inside, or since your knees and hands are muddy already, just sit in the rain.
Have a nice weekend

Happy Victoria Day! I had never heard about it, but Googled a bit....as usual, but now I have a question: TWO different explanations on the net:
Canada celebrate Victoria day the last monday before May 25. or:
Canada celebrate Victoria day every year May 24. but if the 24. is on a sunday, they celebrate it May 25.
What is right? To me it seems that the first sounds natural, as it gives you a Victoria week end! Have a happy celebratoin anyway! AUD ;-))

Aud, The actual date is, of course, May 24th. However, we celebrate it usually on the weekend closest to it. This year, we are off on May 23rd, and back to work on the 24th.

Thank you, Katherine! Let's hope that your nice weather continues, so you can have a lovely day off tomorrow, and not least: that the cold weather do not come back till next autumn! A very unrealistic wish???? AUD ;-))

The rain hasn't set in.... YET... but the local forecast (on the computer when checked yesterday) said that we were in for a Thunderstorm today. However, the temperature has dropped drastically since noonish. My sister was up visiting her son and the two of us went to the cemetery to visit our parents' gravesite... while there we could feel the air change and become cooler and damper... so the rain is in the air, it's just a matter of time when it hits. I seriously hope that we don't have a summer like last year here too, Shelagh... enough of the cold, rainy weather and on with the hot summer weather we *should* be having.

NOt necessarily unrealistic, Aud. In Labrador, we usually have nice summers, even if they are short. However, I will be in St. John's for part of the summer, and it is usually wet and rainy there. Thanks for the good wishes anyhow.
