What I scored yesterday

Yesterday was our synagogue's annual Purim carnival. It's always fun for the kids, with all the little games and things to do. They also have a silent auction including gift baskets made up by the religious school classes and some local businesses. I was wandering around the auction area when, lo and behold, I find a "knitting basket" donated by Alamitos Bay Yarn Company in Long Beach, CA

Well, heck, this one was too good to pass up, so I added my bid to the list; the way this works is that there are lists for each item, and you put your name and bidder number by the price you're willing to pay. I jumped straight to the amount that was just under the estimated value, knowing that something like this probably wasn't going to get too many bidders anyway, and no one else would be obsessed enough with knitting to pay close to full price Besides, I think they low-balled the estimate just a tad.

Anyway, I got the call yesterday evening that I had won the basket. Woohoo!!! More goodies! I picked it up today, and here's what I got for my money.

A $30 gift certificate to the store. An Eagle Good to Go knitting tote (I saw this at Michael's for $30)

5 skeins of Caron's "Cozi" in color Blue Jeans. This is enough to make the wrap that's on the wrapper. 2 balls of Fun Fur Prints in color Citrus. 2 pair of Lion Brand knitting needles; 10" scarf needles in size 15 and 14" straights in size 10.5. 2 books: Stitch 'N Bitch (which I somehow managed not to buy until now), and The Knitting Directory by Alison Jenkins. The directory looks like a good reference to keep in the bag. A retractable tape measure in a cute kitty case. And a crocheted poncho that's perfect for my older daughter.

Not too shabby. Now to figure out how to get to the store from my house so I can spend the gift certificate
