OT: Dad Update Part 2

Talked to Mom this a.m. She was on the way to taking Dad to see the gastroenterologist. Dad was in a lot of pain again last night and could not sleep. Doc ordered a colonoscopy on the 28th. could not figure out what was happening at the moment but did not fee that it was so serious as to put him back in the hospital. He sees his internist tomorrow. Hopefully, everyone will get the records from the hospital soon so they can see what was noted while he was in the last few days. Not sure what is happening, but this does not seem good.

I will let you know if any more goes on to day or else I will update after he sees the internist tomorrow.

Here's hoping they finally figure out what is wrong. That's scary, being in pain and not knowing why!

hey Debbi, i had to go find and read your original post to see where this started. your first post was when i was offline. :( from what you said, i gather he had what felt like a 'broken rib' on the right side. which instantly made me think of gall stones, under the right rib, very painful when a stone is passing but then is just residual soreness. stones for me caused by excess fat in diet (around xmas with whipped cream on everything in sight and i loooove whipped cream) that the body isnt properly dealing with.

also thot of kidney if the pa> Talked to Mom this a.m. She was on the way to taking Dad to see the

Jeanne,

I will talk to Mom to see if they have looked into these. I know that my mother and I both have had our gall bladders removed. Thanks so much for the suggestions!!!

gall stones is the first thing tht came to my mind too. And docs seem to not want to check for that. Get an ultrasound! and/or ask for bloodwork to look for elevated enzyme levels etc.

best of luck!

HI Everyone,

Dad say his internist today. He and the doc yesterday now think we are dealing with diverticulitis.

Thank you, Debbi, for keeping us updated. I was remembering you all last night and praying for guidance for his doctors. The possibility of diverticulitis crossed my mind earlier - several of my friends deal with it but not very carefully. There's been some startling changes in treatment lately too. It used to be that they had to avoid anything 'seeds' and now they've changed their minds entirely. Continuing to hold you close, Polly

I remember my DSMIL scraping the sesame seeds off her hamburger buns. I don't know if anyone could have ever convinced her that it was ok to eat them....well, maybe the Pope could have influenced her. Maybe.

Kathyl, the condition is so painful for some folks that scraping off the seeds is worth the effort to not take the chance. That said, I indulge in almond M&Ms every chance I get- with no noticeable troubles. Who knows? If I wait long enough 'they' might decide butter and smoking are actually good for you???

Yeah, I know. Don't hold your breath for the smoking (no pun intended) ....the butter could happen though!
