Children's Sleepwear

Does anyone know where I can buy flannel fabric that was chemically treated to meet the flammability requirements of children's sleepwear? How do I know if the fabric I'm buying meets this standard? Is anyone familiar with how they treat this fabric?

Any information would be helpful! Thanks, Peggy

Thank you for the information. I've pretty much concluded during my research that's it not worth it for a small company like mine to venture into manufacturing children's sleepwear, with all the restrictions that are in place. The chemically treated fabrics are expensive and as you pointed out, can't be too healthy for children!

Instead, I'm considering making pyjamas for mommies which allow easy acess for nursing. Thankfully, no flammability restrictions on adult's pj's!

Thanks again for the info, Peggy

Children's sleepwear doesn't have to be flame resistant to meet safety standards. The sleepwear can be snug-fitting and that is supposedly another way to help prevent burns. Here's a link from the CPSC on it:

I first noticed this on some ofmy DD's sleepwear that had these big tags saying that they should besnug-fitting because they are not flame resistant, which was new to me so Ilooked it up. The only suggestion I'd have about nursing wear is to check out the really fun and funky top/dress ideas from Japanese Weekend

I'd love to try to make some of these for myself if I can figure out how to do it. Right now, $72 for a nursing top isn't in my budget. I got really tired of the ho-hum, no-style nursing gown I had with my first DD, but there wasn't much else out there. Some of the new two-panel, no-button designs at Motherhood are ok. Fiddling with buttons was obnoxious. If you come up with something pretty and reasonably priced, I'm sure there would be a lot of thankful mommies out there!
