Update on DGD's top

A couple of weeks ago I wrote moaning and ggroaning about the neckline stretching on GDG's black knit top. I followed up saying that when I measured it to the pattern I realized that no it hadn't, the problem was caused by my using interfacing on the neck and collor facings and I was going to recut them and not use anything in them. When I tried the top on her before I put the collar and facings on, she said she didn't like the way the sleeve cap fit. She left for home and there I was without to try the top on. I cut the sleeve pattern back a size, took out the seam allowance that I had to add, because it didn't come with them included in the pattern, and resewed the sleeves to the top. Yesterday, I went to see her and tried on the top. Fit perfect. Brought it home with me today to hem and will get it out to her this week. I still don't like the fabric and will buy more from a source other than JoAnn's and make it again. I then plan to deep six the pattern. It's a Neue Mode. I found the directions sadly lacking in everything, clarity of insstructions being the most important. I did get a good fit but I'm not happy with this brand. I doubt I'll ever use them again. Juno

They are long time members of my blacklist for having pattern pieces that do not fit together! New Look used to be the same... I think they have improved, but it sounds like Neue Mode are still the pile of waste paper they always were!

I've had this pattern for about 1 1'2 years so I can't say if there has been any improvement since then. I do know that if I didn't follow along with this group I never would have attempted to make the changes I made. I've gained a lot of confidence in my own abilty because I know that if I run into trouble I have a place to go. That's such a good feeling. Next is my Loes Hinse Bolero Jacket. I hope to start that tomorrow. I have a ton of fabric a friend gave me so I can use some of that to make my toile with. If it comes out well I have a nice jacket. If not, I'm on my learning curve and it hasn't cost me anything. Juno

I doubt you will have problem fitting the Loes Hinse pattern. DD just finished a bolero Jacket for herself, it's beautiful in the photos and she can't stop bragging about it. She insists I need to make myself one before fall. Emily

Dear Emily, I hope I do well with the jacket. I love the simplicity of it. It looks like the kind of pattern that you want to make up in every fabric available. I don't know if you saw my post from last week. I spoke to Loes and was so impressed with her.She told me not to worry so much about my figure problems and gave me quite a few suggestions for making the jacket. Her main susggestion was that I go with a larger shoulder pads than she usually recommends and to make the front band a little wider. I called "The Sewing Place" and ordered 3 different styles and sizes of shoulder pads to try in it. The woman there was also very helpful and I received my order in less than 48 hours. The other thing was that Loes told me to feel free to call her again if I had any more concerns. I really appreciated that. I just never expected when I emailed her that she would send me a phone number and ask me to call so that we could talk over my fitting problems. I love her designs, they suit my life style. Juno
