Cake ideas for adoption party

Aug 08, 2003 6 Replies

A friend of mine is having an adoption party for her son and husband next week. She wanted to make a cake that would be kind of whimsical and kind of cute for the occasion. The theme of the cake would be something fatherly.

I was wondering whether a regular, nice cake would be appropriate or if something like a Father's Day cake would work. She wants it to be related somehow to the adoption and new fatherhood.

I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Sheila

I think Happy Father's Day would be appropriate. The real thing isn't for another 10+ months.

How old is the son? A couple cakes, one "baby" (even if its a "Ken" doll in a diaper or bassinet, legs hanging out) and one "New Daddy" might be fun!

The adopted boy in question is 4 1/2 so I'm not sure about the new baby stuff, although that's very cute. Maybe a dated picture cake and matching framed photo... I need to get moving on these ideas.

If she has a great photo of the two of them together, she could get an edible transfer. They're easy, personalized and quick (a bonus for a mom with a 4 1/2 year old).

I think this is the way to go. My friend is going to have the original photo framed for the occasion as well. Thank goodness for edible ink and paper. Thanks.

Framing the original is a great touch--I think we'll incorporate that for an anniversary this fall!
