Candace -- Downtime Between Rebekah Auctions

I understand what you are saying, Tina. I really do. I just don't think it applies here. If the things that were pointed out would have been of use to anyone else, then yes--I would totally welcome it in the newsgroup--because it would mean potentially helping lots of folks. Like when people _ask_ about whether or not their page scrolls, or the text is too little or whatnot--others can benefit from the advice given. But in this case, I'm not seeing how anyone else would have benefited from seeing my mistake(s) pointed out. I honestly feel it could have been discussed in an e-mail. Unless, there is currently someone else out there running charity auctions with items donated by Becki, and I'm just not aware of it.

I am very new to this sort of thing, and I will make mistakes. I did apologise for not crediting the donations correctly. I am taking steps to make it a non-issue.

I must admit--the crediting thing took me aback because it didn't occur to me that mentioning the donor's name was a central part of the auctions. I was more focused on the end result. I only did it at all because it seemed to work under the first handler.

I appreciate each and every person who has taken the time to donate whatever they could, and slighting anyone wasn't my intention. But from now on, the donor names will stay on the webpage, and the pertinent information about the items will be the focus on the auction pages.

I suspect Su was referring to the time it takes to send out the packages, label them.. get to the PO to actually send them. Thank you from this quarter too, for putting this much effort into this. Diana

ah well, I do have my Postal Boy:) Adam is the one mailing them out for me, since I can't get out during the day--no vehicle. And luckily, the post office sits on the same land as his job. (That town is 90% owned by his employers--the place he works is actually spread out over the entire town)

Yep. I was complimenting Candace on her generousity with her time. I know it can be a major chunk of the day to get things packed, addressed and off to the post office.

I re-read Becki's post, and it was very friendly and open, and not critical. She was just asking to be credited. (?????) I think maybe this is being blown out of proportion.

For the plain and simple reason of streamlining the process of listing, I'm leaving the crediting part to the names being on the donor list.

But, you see, Candace, it is useful to others here. There have been half a dozen other people here who have hosted charity auctions, and many more who might at another time.

There are many people who are interested in whether and how to acknowledge donors, just as there are many people who need to know you are paying for some expenses. I strongly suggest that you should not put out a single penny you, after all the effort you put out. If this is a "group effort", we should be aware of these things while donating or helping or just sending vibes.

It's a wonderful thing you're doing.

Candace -- my apologies. I only looked at the one auction, not all of them, and didn't see that you said that in all of them. I'm not seeking my name in the auction. I just didn't want that artist to see HER name and work there and wonder what the heck she donated to.

In other words, forget it. My mistake.

I wasn't and didn't criticise you. I misunderstood what you were were doing with the blanket statement of "this item was donated" and read it to mean that it was donated by the artist. Who would find that information rather shocking. Please don't take it so personal. Becki, this week, I was a highly volatile entity, and likely to read everything the wrong way. I'm not asking you to be responsible for my being rubbed the wrong way. I've found a way to deal with all of this that should work out for everyone, and I'd very much like to move on past it now. I'm guessing you'd like to do the same.

I can see that. And so did Candace and so did Tina and so did Sooz, and perhaps countless others. "This item was donated." seem like an incomplete sentence to me and I thought she forgot to finish it. And since it came right after a discussion of the artist, it sounded like the artist donated it, which was erroneous. But no matter how it was said, it was not said unkindly. There was nothing nasty about it. Even if you add up ALL my mistakes, including the fact that Candace wished I had sent that as a personal email, it still wasn't unkind.

However, to imply that I wanted credit on each auction pissed me off to no end. I didn't donate items so I could get my name in the auctions. Candace -- did you not think before you posted that on the internet? It didn't occur to you that sounded rather wrong? I read that and had one reply, which is "Go to hell." I'm normally able to give people the benefit of the doubt, and/or just walk by some things, but I couldn't walk by that one.

I'm going back to my regularly scheduled programming now.
