Completely off Topic, Personal update.

To those of you who have listened to me over the past 2 years regarding my struggles with Ann, my 17 year old, I wanted to give an update. I think it's good to share the good too !

Brief history: Ann started carrying on a toxic friendship. She was lying, using drugs and became someone we didn't know. When we finally forbade her friendship, she isolated herself, became anorexic and lost 30 pounds in 3 months. She had to be hospitalized. Sounds awful and it was, but she finally receached a point where she needed to accept help. She continutes to see a counselor and dietian and is on a mild antidepressant. She has learned to talk about her feelings. She is now a joy to live with again, after a couple of very rough months of establishing a new relationship with me. I learned a lot too and am trying to stay out of her personal decisions. I had been way too controlling and protective in the past. Her recovery had to be her recoevery. I couldn't make it happen. In fact, that would have done more harm than good. In a way, that extreme closeness between us was part of why she needed to take such drastic action to seperate and become more adult and independent. Ann now weighs a normal weight. She has a job at a deli, that she loves, is taking yoga and she has a new friend who is a really nice kid.

Thanks to all of you who over the years have listened to me patiently over all of this. It meant a lot to me.

Kathy - that is sooo good to hear. Sounds like things are turned around - and at 17 she should start to mature and "grow up" into a more stable adult - especially with the counseling and all.

Good for you for sticking in there through the rough spots....

Keep it up...

Cheryl

Kathy, I am so pleased to hear that you and Kathy are getting it together again. Long may it continue and give you peace of mind again I look at your picture everyday in my workroom and also the one of Ann wearing her Harry Potter scarf. Hugs Shirley

Kathy, That is terrific news! I'm so happy for you and Ann. Being a Mom is tough sometimes, but SO worth it.

I'm kindof a newbie around these parts but saw your story and it touched me. I feel your pain but am so glad that things are getting back on track. God sometimes chisels away at us to mold us into a beautiful creation.

Holy crap. I HAVE been worried about you, and I'm really glad to hear where you are now with Ann, even though it was so rough and bumpy. Sounds like her life was saved.

Love you, h> To those of you who have listened to me over the past 2 years regarding my

LOL. Kathy -- I was singing at Soozie & Kevins last weekend. Sooz was going through things in the back and I was up front with Kev. I had the window open and the fan on, and all of a sudden I was freezing (Berkeley can get like that). My hair couldn't decide which way to blow, LOL. So I started singing (from Jumping Jack Flash, Rolling Stones):

I was born in a cross-fire hurricane

Sooz wanted me to sing louder, but I can't. LOL. Too embarassing. Bad enough that she heard me at all!!! I do manage to amuse myself.

Becki

Becki,

I know what you mean, I crack myself up all the time at work with stry\ay goofy thoughts and dumb things that strike me as funny. I love to me amused.
