Ivan "the Terrible"

Please stay safe everyone! I hear that it will probably still be nasty farther north than the coastal states. You're in my thoughts. Check in when you can.

Thanks, Vicki. They are predicting a lot of rain and storm force winds/tornados for our area (Tallahassee). We're not getting landfall here, but the backside of the storm, which is almost worse.

I'll check in with y'all when I can tomorrow.

My cousin lives in Panama City, FL. He took my aunt (his mother) to northern Georgia Monday night, and has been sending out updates every couple of hours all day today -- although I haven't heard from him since about 3 o'clock.

His comment: "If you can sell a lot in an area about to be hit by a major hurricane, with the closing interrupted by the hurricane: that's salesmanship."

Land may be dirt cheap there, shortly. :-/

I live in central Alabama and, even this far north, we are in a state of alert. I have 2 very nervous kids, 5 and 3. They don't like storms and this has been crazy.

Thanks for the well wishes, Lynette in AL

Keep safe! And spare a thought for my daughter in Baton Rouge. I'm worried sick about her, of course being long-distance doesn't help matters!

Good luck to everyone in the path. I hate how these things keep hitting us one after another.

I've heard there's already been tornadoes in Panama City, and that's just the outer bands of Ivan!! Apparently even Birmingham and Georgia will feel the fury of Ivan, even though by the time it gets to them it'll be a weaker system, although still possibly tropical storm strength.

Everyone in the areas that it's headed to, stay safe!! And for everyone living in coastal states, don't forget that hurricane season isn't over

*yet* and Jeanne is out there and they're expecting a wave off of Africa to become Karl sooner or later!!! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm ready for hurricane season to be OVER with this year!!!

From what I've read in the newspaper here we should be expecting hurricane seasons like this in the future too. Something about having an abnormal 25 years of below average hurricane activity. It just seems like it's one after another after another after another...

Yes, lots of tornados and there have already been 2 tornado related deaths in P.C.

Rain started here around 6 PM and has continued all night. Wind has started to pick up, too.

Yep...they said for *at least* the next decade it will be like this. Well, I'm hoping to be in Central Texas next year before hurricane season arrives! We've been thinking about moving there for several months now, but my father doesn't retire until December, then we can really start the process. My mom, stepfather, sister, bil and neice are all there, so it would be the whole family in one area. Another thing that might prolong the process is we've hired a lawyer to file a lawsuit against the Days Inn in Kissimmee where my grandmother fell and broke her leg. They had an unmarked ramp leading down to the elevator, and it was a pretty steep ramp...she slipped and fell, and broke her leg. We took pictures of the area after a friend of my mom told us too...he's an accident investigator...and he said that the way they have it is very dangerous. So we contacted a lawyer who came out yesterday morning, got all the info, took pics of my grandmother's leg, looked at the pics I printed out, and said that we have a very good case. He told us to make an appointment for her to see an Ortho...she hasn't seen one since she was abruptly released from the hospital the day before Charley hit...nobody ever gave us any instructions as to who to see, what to do, or when to see anyone. The whole thing was totally fouled up from the release.

I heard about those deaths. It's too bad they had to happen, but there will always be people who don't use common sense and evacuate when they're told too.

Stay safe, and hopefully you won't get it *too* bad...at least it won't be as bad as what Pensacola will be getting.

That's terrible about your grandmother. I hope you get some resolution to the case. It's always good to take lots and lots of photos. Keep a daily journal and stay close to the attorney. It will all work out in the end.

From one person who closed tons of cases by annoying the hell out of insurance agents.

Crap. I was hoping it would miss you completely. You and yours will be in my prayers. Give Avner a big hug for me, too. Let's hope that this first day of the new year is the only tough one you have.

Yes, everyone please do stay safe!! My Mom lives in Pensacola and my hubby's dad lives in Mobile, so they are right there in the thick of it. They didn't leave and are still there weathering the storm. My Mom actually lives in a mobile home, but she is staying with my Granny at the nursing home because she says it is a large brick building and she feels they will be safe there. I sure hope so! I just talked to her a couple of hours ago and things were already really bad there and they weren't predicting landfall until 1:00am Central time. Please keep them in your prayers. Thanks so much!
