You know, I've been trying, but I really just don't like (coated) wire and crimps. Even Soft Touch. So I'm looking more closely at power-, spider-, fire- lines. And glue. Of course, I don't like glue either, mostly because of its tendancy to get stiff and eventually break.
What about latex? They sell it at Alaska Tent and tarp for repairing tents, boots, and by at least one friend for repairing Carrharts.
And Starlia, this would be a great thing for your repair kit.

I've never used glue on good old nylon, but some of the new lines, including kevlar, don't knot normally.
And, you see, it seems to me that a crimp will break down a fiber line more surely than glue would, and especially the pure latex/rubber.
One of the things I've found that works well when crimping is to put a round big holed silver bead on either side of the crimp.

I was looking at a necklace from Indonesia last night that used this way of ending off. They used silk cord (I think) looped over the jump ring, then knotted it off at the end and glued the knot(s) to the end of the last silver spacer bead. I personally would probably not use this method because me and sticky things do not get along. However, I meniton it as an option. Dora
