More Beading for Dummies--books?

Sep 28, 2004 13 Replies

If, say, someone were looking for a good basic beading book, what would you reccomend?

Ok, this has probably been mentioned before, but I never paid attention. I keep getting ideas for combining seed beads with my lampwork, especially, lately my vessels, but there's just one problem. I don't seed bead!

Anything by Carol Wilcox Wells. Those Bad, Bad Beads by Virginia Blakelock

Thanks Barb,

If I can get out towards a book store, I'd like to look at those.

YOu can probably find them online, gently used, for a good low price, too.

If you are at all interested in loomwork and offloom, get Bad, Bad Beads first.

If you want general offlloom stitches (peyote, square, brick, raw), get the first Carol Wilcox Wells book:

Seed bead weaving: Creative Beadweaving by C. Wilcox Wells

Other: The Best Little Beading Book by W. Simpson Conner; sorta a mish-mash of just about everything about beads except beadweaving.

Thanks Kaytee, I hadn't heard of the Conner book.

It was one of the first "everything" ones available-- the first beading book I got, close to 10 years ago. There is a 2d edition out that is supposed to be better organized. She also has individual technique books out-- like for lampshades, amulet bags, etc., and a documentary film.

When did it come out? I'm on the mailing list for the announcement of the publicaiton, and I've heard nothing. Plus I haven't been able to find it in any bookstores, online or IRL. ~~ Sooz To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong. ~~Joseph Chilton Pearce

It was supposed to come out last fall.... I don't know if it actually did or not. I haven't seen Wendy the last few times I've gone to Gem Faire (she lives in LA now), but last Sept (2003) was when both the improved edition of "Best Little Beading Book" and a new "single" on bead applique/fringe were supposed to come out. She said something about maybe changing the title to "Beaders' Bible". Kaytee "Simplexities" on
