It's not a big deal, at all. Flying certainly doesn't bother me, and if Jamie needs a friendly motherly type to help her negotiate the hospital hassles, I can be there in no time. If she just needs someone to hold her hand, that's okay, too. Being sick and far away from the people that love you sucks, and if I can help alleviate that (even a little bit), Of course I'll do it.

Ah yes -- you are devious -- might just work! However, I heard of a gal that was at Walter Reed-- and they wouldn't even let her MOTHER in to see her. It was on TV, the mother was complaining...She'd been injured in Iraq - and they were not letting anyone visit the floor where those people were being housed... makes you wonder about the government sometimes... However - I checked their webpage - and there don't appear to be any general restrictions... just 11 am to 11 pm hours. (with limited parking).

Wonder how they justified telling those people they couldn't visit??? Wanted to keep their prior mission secret maybe??? Cheryl of DRAGON BEADS Flameworked beads and glass

they did a lot of discussing of this on CNN during the first part of the "war". back during WWII, the troops came home mostly on ships. which took time. time the troops themselves needed. since Vietnam, they've done a lot of studying on the issue. Even Jessica Lynch's parents weren't able to see her for a while. and most of it seems to be an honest desire on the part of the military to protect the injured and help them deal with "decompression" as well as their injuries BEFORE families get involved. so far, in most cases, it seems to have worked well.

Vicki,

Good luck to Jamie. I'm so glad that she found a good doc. My daughter who had her first baby while she & Navy hubby was stationed in Adak, Alaska has nothing good to say about the Navy docs. Luckily, my Navy son has never needed them.

My (baby) son is stationed in San Diego and I'm all the way across country (SC), so I don't get to see him very often. He's been in the Navy for 10 yrs. and will be getting out next July and then moving to Australia. He met a lovely woman there, while on R&R a few years ago. I guess I'll see even less of him then.

Barbara G.

He's been in for nearly 10 years now.

when she enlisted, Jamie was looking at the Navy as a "semi-permanent" career. she wanted the Navy to put her through college so she could be a JAG lawyer. she's been rather disenchanted with the Navy lately, but i sense a change in her attitude, having finally connected with an MD who knows what he's looking at. if this all goes well, and she "gets her gun back!", she may decide to stay after all. she does enjoy her work, and has been taking every class and exam she can.

BTW, everyone: she broke up with the boyfriend. told him to deal with his own "control" issues because she wasn't going to. she's learning! Ben IS a nice guy - but DD won't be "manipulated".

Vicki that's great! If you come to DC, you're only a hop from here. Maybe we Virginians and Marylanders could arrange a meet with you. Wouldn't that be fun?
