O/T - Wired As!

Well, hasn't my life been just sucky lately! Last night at work I was confronted by a low-life who decided he wanted my takings for the evening! Wow! What adrenilin can do!! Didn't know I had fighting skills like that...

Needless to say, I'm now a nervous wreck! I only hope they catch the F****r....

Good job I saved the till & I don't think he got a cent!!! Now for justice!

AND we hope you kicked ass.

When I was visiting my son in Ukraine, I was accosted by a group of 6 or 8 Gypsy women. I was very surprised and pleased when my (mostly non-combative) martial arts training gave me the presence to repel them.

Mavis,

I don't want to sound like I'm dogging you, but how dumb was that? Even though I'm a black belt and tote a weapon I wouldn't try that. I'm just worried that if it happens again that you may not come out so well. Please be careful.

Now with all that said....YOU GO GIRL! I love to hear about women taking charge and whooping butt. I hope they get him as well, but more importantly how are you?

I agree what you said about safety first, and bravery waaaaaay second. And, I have to admit, I didn't kick ass, but rather I got them to leave. I did that with the sense a strong self that martial arts will teach. Being solid, and using my voice. That's the benefit. In Aikido we are taught that the fight you win is the one you do NOT fight. The one in which both parties come to agreement. And part of that is being "present" and strong, so that people prefer easier prey. Especially when we're talking self defense.

By the way, Starlia, did you ever hear of the Women's Martial Art Retreat we had every year? First with Barbara Frink of Fairbanks, and then with WIMARS (Women In Martial Arts and Related Studies).

Thank you for all your kind words...

Yes, I'm (mostly) ok... I'll be even better when they get him!

I banged my knee up pretty good and have somehow twisted my back but other than that the pain is internal.. :((

I honestly don't know what I was thinking of - like I'm 5'4" and weigh a puny 58kg and this guy was a least 6' tall and athletic built.. It all happened so suddenly that the flight or fight instinct kicked in and there was no way he was getting my takings! The policeman was rather awed I think and made some comments about how impressive a performance I put up. I was rather ashamed at some of the very loud language I used, but it had good effect because I've never seen someone heels departing so quickly for a long while.. (nervous laughter).. I rather feel a bit psyco at the moment... very weird..

Ah, well, I was shown a few mugshots this afternoon and never realised how hard it was to pick out a person. Just hope I got the right guy. They are going to put together a few more mugs for me to look at.

Any rate, going back to work is going to be one hell-of-a-lot tougher now. Major safety measures are currently going into force.. shame what harm one person can do. Pity our justice system is so lenient. The police were real good though. Here's to catching him....

I'll drink to that! I'm so glad you're not too badly messed up, and so sorry for what parts of you are! I'm sending my warm and fuzzy vibes to you, as I know this will be an internal as well as external healing process.

Thanks, Starlia... I know now it was pretty dumb, but at the time I think instinct just kicked in. I mean I'm in a vehicle and could just drive off when I saw him coming, for crying out loud! What the hell was I thinking of?? Like - get a clue, girl!!!

Really, I have had 4hrs sleep since then and am emotionally a big blob of jello, but it is getting better even now - I'm not quite shaking as much as I was this morning... I had a good long talk with victim support today and that helped heaps.

Thank you to everyone for your kind words,

Mavis

Well, not as much as mine, I bet!

But thank you. It is so much better talking to other women about this than men, I can tell you! My DH is like - you weren't seriously hurt, so why are you crying so much?

What you are experiencing now is PTSS. Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Just like the big tough soldiers do. Your husband would be in the same place if the attack had happened to him. Your response is normal. Take care of yourself now, Be kind to yourself.
