OT: Pancho comes home...

Well, my horse is at the ranch. He's BEAUTIFUL. The seller sez he's a quarter horse, (we've not got the papers on him yet, with his med records etc, but they're coming)..but he has a very dishy arabian-like head, and ...well... he's just beautiful!

I *get* to go today to buy some wormer (be still my beginner heart) and on Thursday I'm going to the ranch and be there while he's cut. He's been kept in a pretty bad situation, in a stall with no turn out except when the family rode him, and the manure in the stall was pretty high (ick). So, now he's in an outside stall, with all the other horses nearby, and he's kinda full of himself at present. Our trainer and one of the jockey students rode him, and they say he's smart and responds very well to their cues. He did let me feed him carrots, but when the horse next to him came over to see if he too could get a carrot, he didn't like it much. No nipping or kicking, just a little rearing and calling out.

Then two jockey students went in to halter him and treat an injury he's got to his knee, and he calmed right down, started licking his lips while his boo-boo was being massaged, and darn near fell asleep while they were working on him.

I HAVE MY FIRST HORSE!!!!!!! (omg!!)

I'll get some pictures posted somewhere someday soon, but I'm so excited. He's just gorgeous! White blaze, down into the muzzle, and a beautiful russet-y chestnut!!!

Oh..!>>>I need to buy some beads that will go well with him!!!

I love his name! Pancho is my ex's father's name and I adore Pancho and his wife Nina.

OMG! You have your first horse. I'm so jealous. When can I come riding? Seriously, this horse sounds perfect.

I sure have high hopes for him. I'm thinking of calling him "Panch" like that cheesy Erik Estrada character on CHiPS!!...ROFL..

but today I just called him "purty baby"!

Thanks!...I'm one of the few women at the ranch, so it's about a boy and his horse too! LOL...

Horses are just so awesome. Today I went back and wormed him (glamorous, eh??), and let him smell me long, and snuffle me...

I'm just wondering, have you ever actually seen a horse get gelded?

Not a horse, but I was an animal science major in college, so I castrated my share of sheep and swine. Our instructor did it the old fashioned way, with his teeth, but we chose the new fangled "hot cutters"!!

And, when I worked in the local vet's office, I was the one assigned to picking up the 6'2" boy off the floor when he fainted at the sight of pus.

I'm taking snacks!..should be great!
