Oh Shirley - has it been a year already????!

I am so excited for you - how fun. And also excited to see what a non-American Robin looks like - so pretty!! I love my Robins too (it's also my middle name) - and it's how I know spring is here and that my birthday is coming... someday I will try to get one to feed out of my hand... when the kid is all grown up and the dogs don't think it's their job to protect me from a little birdie.. someday, but not yet...

Shirley -- in my ignorance, I always get caught up in the stupid details. So here is my question -- where do you get "meal worms"? Do people sell stuff like that? I was tripped out by that.

i'm not Shirley. here, they sell them in most "feed stores" and "pet-food" places.

You can buy them in pet stores and stuff. Feed stores have them -- places where you buy bridles, chickens, and rabbit chow. I'm so thrilled that the birds are loving you, Shirl! ~~ Sooz

Meal worms, they are supposedly vegetarian worms. I get them from a bird food shop. They do not smell, are clean to handle. I keep them in a large bowl, cover with bran in an out house. Shirley

Yes the wild bird food shops stock them. They are very active little things that is why I have to put them in a straight side dish or they would escape. I had to invent a special arrangement for feeding them especially for the robins. If put out in the open the larger birds see them of in the blinking of an eye. They are not cheap to buy nearly 12 UK pounds for 500 grams. However it gives me great pleasure to feed the wild birds. Shirley

We feed bird on the back deck -- out the window from my desk. Lots of birds, and at night a flying squirrel.

I have a suction cup bird feeder on the window right in front of me and my computer - I love watching the birds come to eat - mostly chick-a-dees, juncos and nuthatches... and sometimes a very persistent squirrel. Today a squirrel jumped from somewhere and landed on top of the feeder. I was sitting here and saw it's surprised face when I knocked on the window to scare it. It jumped off but loosened the feeder from the holder. It was back within 2 minutes, jumped on and I saw the whole thing just fall right down - feeder with squirrel on it. Missed his surprised look that time though - it went so fast.

We have some of those! We have a bird house that they've been nesting in for the past two years. I thought they just looked funny because they were baby squirrels, but a friend was over, and said that they were flying squirrels. Since then, we've seen them do their glide thing a few times, and once they came out of the house, I found out how differnt they look from the grey squirrels. Here's a picture I took last Spring;

What a delightful picture of the flying squirrel. They have such big sweet eyes. The ones here are quite brave/friendly too.

Sooo cute, sent it to DH (who is in constant need of a birdie fix since I won't let us get another one till after we move).

Your robins are obviously not related at all to the American robins.

Now I have to go re-read "The Secret Garden". The birdie aspect of it seems less fantastical!
