OT -- seeing green

I now understand why people out west carry guns. It is because, at some point in their lives, someone painted their ceiling green. I have now put three coats of white paint on that ceiling and I am still seeing green. I am positively homocidal. If that man who painted my ceiling green ever darkens my doorstep again, I will strangle him with my bare hands.

I have decided not to put any lights in this room (it is my bedroom, going to be all white). Because that way I will not forever see the undertone of green. I think it will be there always.

Going away now.

Lol! Ok, I got a chuckle out of "homocidal" and thought, "I sure hope she means 'homicidal'!"

I LOVE green, but that green ceiling might be too much, even for me!!

Go to your favorite hardware store (or ask a neighbor for a recommendation for a hardware store) and pick up a quart of BIN or KILZ. Either one will seal the old paint job so you can paint over it without frustration or show through.

This advice courtesy of the woman who painted a kitchen which had been blessed with a kitchen painted in Pepto-Bismol pink stucco. There were gaps and skips in the stucco, and the whole room looked like it had a bad case of acne. The BIN sealed the pink, so I could paint the stucco off-white, until I had enough money to knock out the walls and start again.

Becki, My hubby says that Sherwin Williams sells somethign called "Eggshell Primer". He says that you can put it on black and then paint it white, and you will never see the black. He says he once had to redo a blue wall to make it white, and the only way he could get it white with no blue showing, was to use this stuff. It is a "flat" semi-white wall color and once you have it on, you can put what ever you want over it.

Hope this helps you.

I second the KILZ idea, it REALLY WORKS. The only reason i know this is that a couple of years ago, I was awakened by a little girl in a lavender sleeper pajama, with dark blue paint all over her and her hands....and on the walls. She was playing Blue's Clues, apparently, while I was sleeping (this was eeeeeeeeeearly in the morning...). KILZ kept the paint from bleeding through, and now we have happy cream colored walls again. The only thing that remains of the handprints on the walls are the pictures DD took with her camera.

Also -- and this is really good -- I am, apparently, a lesbian. This is the second time I have heard it from someone who I have never met before that day.

The man who said that to me today said it when I was doing something. And I said, without looking at him, "I must have had a blackout or something. You would think I would remember something like that." Then I looked at him, and said, "When exactly did I do that?" He just looked confused and walked away, LOL.

Single woman living alone, of course I am a lesbian, LMAO. My life is much more interesting than I even knew.

Marissa -- i will love you forever, since I started painting the blue ceiling tonight, LOL. I like blue one hell of a lot better than that green.

Kathy -- all the walls are textured like stucco, which is what makes getting all the green nooks and crannies hard. Thanks again for the tip!

Becki, use a very thick pile roller. I guarantee it'll get into the nooks and crannies. My dad used to be a painter in his younger years...and HATES stucco, but that's the only way he could get a good coverage.

I'm sure you already know this - and someone may have posted it already - but they have heavy duty primers that will cover the dark colors.

Good luck - I personally don't get colored celings for the most part either.

Welcome to Small Town Redneck Country.... They're just trying to classify you-- as the "new kid on the block", you're the subject of intense scrutiny no matter what you are, do, think, say.... Not much other entertainment out where you are....

The guy who painted the ceiling green is the same one who textured those walls.... He textured the walls to match the ceilings, which he textured after removing the "cottage cheese" ceiling that was there originally. And yes, HE chose the trim colors.... Kaytee "Simplexities" on

Sooz -- to quote Vince (the mover soon to be in CA), "If they liked that, wait until they see me." LMAO.

You know, in Ohio interracial relationships were everywhere. I know there are parts of CA where neither the color of Vince or I or the fact that we are together or I live alone would be even noteworthy. However, I live here. Sooz -- My bedroom has to be white. It just does. Maybe you and I can change residences, LOL, because I would be in heaven with all white walls.

I LOVE the color of the living/dining room area -- just a couple of shades lighter than what I had at home. And I will say this -- all the walls are textured. But my bedroom (which was Kaytee's father's office) and one of the bathrooms are more of a stucco while the others are a light blown-on texture. The deeper stucco like effect is stunning in white, just stunning. It looks antique. If I ever get the green cracks filled in, LOL. Kaytee -- Not complaining about any of it at all, not one bit. It was pretty when I got here. It is close to being stunning. Out here in the sticks, with the chickens. LOL.

Becki, did you thank Lymon for letting you know that you're a lesbian? After all, I'm sure that it was a surprise to you, and you probably are glad that you know. Kinda like lipstick on your teeth.

Kathy -- I acted "surprised" the second time I was told I was a lesbian, LOL. The first time it caught me so off-guard that I just laughed. I mean, I'm here because I of a man (running away from one) and there are few people who structure their lives around men, and talk about them, more than me. It was very funny, actually.

I'm not offended by the idea -- sexual preferences in terms of color or gender don't bother me. I would be fine if I was a lesbian, and who knows. My life is not over yet, LOL, and I never know what is coming down the lane yet (down the lane, that is a ranch joke. I'm getting acclimated.) I would never have guessed I would be living in CA either! It is just that I am, actually, so into men that no one who knows me, even a little bit, would ever come up with that one.
