OT Snow sucks. Cold sucks. I am SO over this.

I know exactly how you feel. We moved from Alaska back to Texas. I still to this day hate snow and cold weather.

Huh, (this from sweltering humid Bay of Plenty NZ)

I HATE humidity - that's why I left the Far North! It has been anything but a nice summer here! Humidity has been TERRIBLE this year - around 98%!!

AND it's RAINING today!! Bleck!!!

Aula, We are thinking of a trip to Key West to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Neither of us has ever been there. My problem is that I am really afraid of large bugs (stop laughing), is there ANY season where the bugs are less than usual? Also, when is hurricane season exactly? Thanks for the info. Patti

LOL! Yeah, I sure did. But why not live where I have always wanted to live? Nothing holding me here anymore. I can do what I do anywhere.

First the easy answer: Hurricane Season is officially from June 1 to Nov.

  1. With that said, there has been the very unusual 'cane outside of those time frames [one every 30 years, maybe?] Hurricanes are most likely to occur in August through mid-October. Hurricanes early in the season tend to start and remain in the Gulf, hurricanes in the height and later part of the season tend to start and remain in the Atlantic, but those are not hard and fast rules. This is due to water temps and wind currents.

The other question: bugs. I don't like them either. Bugs are more a non-winter problem but, the good news is, that municipalities spray for mosquitoes and many businesses and homeowners spray routinely. Bugs are not seen all that often in areas where lots of people are spraying for them, unless you go start digging in an old wood pile.

For your Key West trip I'd recommend the best time of year in Florida: spring. Our spring runs from some time in Feb. [red maples are seeding right now on my street], through mid to late April. Key West's temps. are less variable than the rest of the state and they get less rain, so it ought to be a lovely time of year. The runner up time from in my book would be mid-oct. through Christmas.

Hope you enjoy your trip!

Screw that! I hate cold. I hate hot, I really hate hot and steamy. That's FL, and all of the midwest in the summer. I keep hearing the mountains of NM calling....the question is--will I still have a husband when I get there? Barbara Dream Master
