OT: Tile For No Reason!

Hi all,

I was having a not-so-good week, and haven't been able to keep up with my mail. Things were just really hectic, and then I had 2 1/2 days of miserable migraines, which my meds. couldn't seem to kick. It is so nice to be back among the living!

I was running some errands, with DD, and had to get some beads in the mail, so we went to the P.O., and DD checked the box while I went inside. There was a package for me from our own Sooz! DD kept asking me what it was, etc., but I didn't know.

Driving home, I was sooooooooo miserable because my head was hurting so badly, and DD said, "Well, I'm glad you got a present today! When I'm sick, something like a letter or a pacakge always makes me feel better. You needed this today."

We opened it up when we got home, and along with a glow in the dark rubber duck, which makes me chuckle, I found this lovely tile:

For anyone that doesn't know, in addition to my two dogs, I frequently babysit my friends' dogs, when they go away. (Or as my friend's son says, "Miss Jerri's Doggie Day Care".) Spike loves having playmates, and I enjoy have a couple of extra dogs for a while, without the expensive vet bills! Sooz said this tile reminded her of me and my doggie spa. What really cracked me up is that the tile looked so much like Romeo with Spike's black spots, that my first thought was that Romeo had swallowed Spike and he's bouncing around inside, trying to get out. (Sometimes a sick mind can be very entertaining.)

Anyway, thanks again, Sooz! You made my week!

Babygirl. Have you considered food allergies for your migraines? Almost all people with migraines have "migraine triggers" -- certain foods or drinks or food colors or additives that bring them on. Usually hidden in other things, they can make us miserable for days. All this crap that people put into our food causes more problems than is given credit -- ADD, hyperactivity, and in my case, migraines. I started noticing that I got migraines every time I drank. I thought they were just hangovers, but you don't get a hangover from 1/2 a beer, and I did. Every time. So I cut out the alcohol and guess what? No more migraines after I drank. LOL. Other foods followed -- some on the classic migraine trigger list, like excessive salt (eating salty snack foods out of the blue, which I never normally eat, would almost always bring on a headache). For me, too much tomato sauce (but not real tomatoes), too much cheese, ham sometimes in large quantities and sometimes in small quantities, MSG in any quantity and sometimes nitrates. I eat no packaged foods any more. It is just not worth it. And I found that sleep was a major trigger for me -- any one of those things following a night of no or little sleep and I was doomed. In fact, staying up all night will cause a headache two days later. Without fail. Watch what you do before you get it, Jerri. I bet you can cut down on this. It is important because they erase the quality of your life. I've had them all my life. The only ones I get now that is unavoidable is the one at the beginning of my period, and sometimes even that one is manageable.

Right! ----BANANAS. It's amazing. Bananas are a migraine-trigger in many, many people. (In me.)

i can't second this enough! i was drinking a milk shake for lunch and waking up with headaches the next day. no milk shake, no headaches. and if i eat cheese, i have to remember i'm going to need decongestants. BLEAH. but foods [sometimes ones you wouldn't even think about] can really mess you up!

Heck, yeah....too much potassium, and you might as well write me off for the rest of the week. The only reason I even buy bananas anymore is that DH eats them a lot when he's riding his bike a lot, or if I'm gonna make banana bread for him to take to work. They're a big no no for me. A hint about the alcohol....at least red wine...take a half an antihistamine before drinking (not enough to cause much of an interaction) and a full glass of water, and it should reduce or even eliminate the migraine. My mom's neurologist suggested it. My food triggers also include MSG, aged cheese, red wine and dark chocolate. MSG is in more food than you think it is, so watch out for it. I really like ranch salad dressing, but have only found 4 brands that do NOT contain MSG. One of those brands is no longer making the dressing...which burns me up, because it was my fave of the 4 (I did manage to stock up on it, when i found out it was being discontinued, but that will only last me a year...sigh). Eating natural, unprocessed foods has become the norm at our house, too. Lemme tell ya....we feel much healthier this way! I only get headache triggers from stress and low pressure weather systems now.

Hi Becki,

Mine are hormonal. I seem to have about a week where I might get them, but I don't always. I have found I do have some triggers: chocolate, perfumes, cigerette smell, stuff like that. Supposedly, it gets better when you get older. Great. Can't wait.

Jerri,

I know it's a personal question, but by any chance are you on the Pill? I ask because I would get mirgraines every month the week of my period. I mentioned it to EVERY ob/gyn that I had. Finally, when I moved to Rochester, I told my new doctor. She said, "Oh, you're in estrogen withdrawal. Here'a a script for an estrogen patch." Evidently, my body was so used to the estrogen of the pill that the week I didn't take it, my body freaked out. I could put the patch on and within an hour I'd feel the headache just "lift" away. HEAVEN!
