An update.

I was with her last night when they took my mom away for surgery. I was unsettled by how grim her pre-op crew was. My dad was a mess (man, did he need some blood sugar increase!). Mom was out like a light, thank god (I'm assuming on pre-op sedatives, and painkillers, as she had been in terrible pain). She'd lost more than a pint of blood to internal bleeding. (They were about to transfuse her when the surgical gurney came for her.)

I got Dad home and fed him and he was much better. My sister came blasting in, and I went home. (If I'd stayed, with her there too, I'd have been no good to ANYONE in an hour!)

I called around 7 am and they said she'd lived through surgery!!! YAY!!! She was resting (I hope she was on those great drugs and not hurting....although that's a given, as who can "rest" after that kind of surgery without painkillers? Jeebus).

I would've called the ICU during the wee hours, but I totally passed out. After yesterday's deposition, and the previous stuff this week, I am sapped. Today was supposed to be the funeral for my great aunt, and it still is of course, but we can't go (duh!). But -- Kevin has the day off, so he can be with me (he is my rock). Blessings! Luck! And my mom is okay right now! I slept for a couple of hours after I called the ICU, as I was shaking from the stress after-effects. Fibro makes you unable to handle this stuff on a physical level, dammit.

A bit of background: My mom is 76. She had a kidney transplant just in time about 3 years ago. She'd been near death numerous times and very messed up the

12 months before her transplant -- dialysis only works for so long. Her health is frail.

It's so weird to see them shrink and diminish. Sometimes I think if you looked away for a moment, they'd keep dwindling and just go >poof< before you looked at them again. ~~ Sooz

We definitely love you Sooz & family. I am keeping all of you in my prayers.

I know what you mean when you say you are afraid to look away and think they would go "poof". Hugs to you all!

I just wanted to say, on a procedural note, that I appreciate Soozie's "one answer fits all" instead of answering each post individually. There are some here who must answer each post, and after a while it just clogs up the newsgroup. Any who feel they can consolidate their answers will be greatly appreciated, by me at least.

love you all

Not that we were home, of course. I *am* home today. I couldn't drive over there unless she were dying today. But she's doing great. I DO believe in vibes! I DO believe in vibes!

Man, did she look DIFFERENT yesterday -- another, **better** person! Oh my GOD.

Okay: she'd had a *3*inch* hole/gash in her stomach, which was bleeding her out, and open to her abdominal cavity. (We are thankful it wasn't a hole in her intestines, bacteria-wise.) We did almost lose her. She was alert enough to be totally her old anxiety self, abeit on dilaudid (can you say Needs A Lot Of Reality Checks?). Supposedly (after I chatted with her nurse) they are putting her on anxiety meds, as she was terribly agitated. She's that way in the hospital, and once thought the nurses were plotting evilly to murder her (restraints were needed). I feel for her, but it's chemical and cannot be reasoned with, and put me in a terrible state yesterday. We headed home at dinnertime, and I had to pull over and talk it out with wonderful Kevin til I could drive again. Thank god he was with me.

One note -- for those who don't know -- I've pretty much been my mother's mom most of my life. In the past few years I've refused to do that anymore (in my late 40s it was about time). But the old buttons are still awfully push-able. Today I am staying home to recover and have that MASSAGE.

THANK YOU ALL for your wonderful healing hands of thought that lifted my mother up!!!!! IT WORKS. ~~ Sooz

This is great news! Yay!!

How was your massage? OMG, what I wouldn't give to have another upper body massage at The Fontana Spa in Lake Geneva!
