I will check this out very very soon. I know about JoAnn's fabrics and used to deliever newspapers in there when I was a boy. Always wanted to go back as I remeber all the colors. LOL I know it sounds tacky, but that's what boys like bright colors. :) When I do anyway. lol

OK. You really want to talk SAD? Try 4 hours of sun above the horizon, and the sun at such a declination that you probably have more light at sunset than we do at "high noon". And temps consistantly below 0F. On a fairly regular basis we have scientific studies presented at the circumpolar conference on SAD. There are actual changes in the brain caused by lack of sunshine. But seriously folks, most of you get the winter blahs more than brain chemistry changes.
A couple easy things that help in extreme conditions are taking Vit D tablets, and replacing all your indoor lights with full spectrum.
What works even more often, and in less extreme circumstances are the things that work for Depression the illness, as well as depression the feeling. One of the biggest thing is to increase your oxygen intake. Exercise, or even do deep breathing, and take ginkgo. And GO OUTSIDE, like you do in summer. You won't melt or freeze unless you really work at it.
OK, bitching done with.

it does every year, but it's so hard to get

Ok, you all just gave me a new reason to get my ott light - I've been putting it off because it seemed like an unnecessary expense after all the "necessary" stuff I've bought - beads, wire, glass, torch, kiln, etc... but my eyes have been sore and the lack of sun does get to me - it would be nice to kill two birds with one stone as they say. I hate that expression come to think of it.
Harry, I hope you are feeling better soon and hope it helps knowing you are not alone and that people DO care {{{ Hugs}}}

Ok, so you have an extreme, then. But still, I don't think feeling suicidal is just winter blahs. I'd never act on the feelings, because btdt, got the tshirt, and puked on it. I just can't take medication for it, because of risk of stroke. So i do whatever i can naturally.

Actually, I don't think SAD is as common as people think. I'm talking physiological changes and stuff. But the problem is not less severe for it, but more. I also don't think feeling suicidal is just winter blahs, but not SAD either. It's much deeper, and needs more than nice weather to overcome.

I try to take as little medication as possible. A friend turned me on to B-12 a year ago. I take one 1500 mg cap in the morning (with my flax seed oil) with coffee and it has greatly helped my "funks". I got a little down this holiday season, as I do every year, but not the the previous point of wanting to hide under the covers and cry until it's over.
Even TMILWDLMB hasn't been able to depress me lately.

Here's some info i found, from people i really trust, aside from the info my doctor gave me, when he diagnosed me two years ago. I used to work in a mental health clinic, and dealt with these organizations on a regular basis. I won't post on this anymore, because it's starting to really upset me, and i was starting to feel like i wasn't being affirmed in my own struggles. (My feeling...my responsibility to speak up, and it's not meant to start an argument, just to state a position.)

You are so kind and I do thank you. I try not to ramble to much, but at times I just can't help it. Would love to read it. I do like poetry and have also tried and failed at writing some. Maybe I shouldn't say failed as I was the only one that read it. lol

Linda, Try taking both B12 and B6 together. If you have a walgreen's around you........ Go to the pharmacist and ask for "The Perfect B"...... it's a liquid form and is wonderful. I take them altogether and it helps.

I'm sorry, Jalynne,
