went shopping for mop

On Monday my youngest son asked me if I wanted to go with him to this place that did MOP. Chris's collects knives, mainly folding knives. He also makes them himself and wanted to see about getting Mop for the handles.

The workshop is about 10 miles from where we live. It is only a small workshop that looked as if it was two manned run.

We were invited in the office and I asked if they had any beads as such. The owner brought me a card on which there were some items stuck to it.

I chose a few of them and he said to me when they are gone there will not be anymore. So I doubled up on one item.

So I queried why and he told me they no longer make them and they had been there since before WW11. They are vintage and older than me.

I will ask Vicki if she will put a picture up for me.

I might even use some in my next swap bracelet. Shirley

vj found this in rec.crafts.beads, from Shirley Shone :

Lovely - I esp. like the butterflies.

They're wonderful, lucky lady! You always find such lovely things, Shirley.

I LOVE MOP!!! Seems like I saw a TV show that was talking about MOP drillers in England and how it is a dying trade... sounds like you got some lovely stuff!

Oh wow, cool! I can hardly wait to see them!

It's neat that your son collects knives... my father and I are both avid knife collectors. I collect Case knives almost exclusively, with a focus on Baby Butterbeans.

Oh wow, those are pretty!
