WIP: Egyptian Cuff Bracelet test strips

Normally, I never show a piece I'm making while in progress, but this is an exception. While I'm waiting for my Delicas to arrive, I've been working out my pattern in my favorite size 8/0 beads. The test strips turned out nicely enough that I've made them into bracelets all by themselves for fun. I also got to improvise a couple of interesting clasps.

Take a peek - they're not impressive museum material, but they are fun.

look in the Kokoshnik folder. Oh yes, check out the photos - I've discovered the macro function on my camera. Makes those detail shots quite a bit easier. Since this was a rushed, spur of the moment thing, I didn't set up my usual lights and background: it's just normal room light and a yellow bath towel.

Enjoy!

Not to sound conceited, but I am starting to think that I might actually have a talent for this beadwork stuff. I spent a half hour in shock looking at the winning items from three contests at bead-patterns.com

With very few exceptions, I was seriously underwhelmed. Some of the "Professional" beaders items' really surprised me, because they were barely distinguishable from the novice entries. I wish that the judges had listed why they picked the winners they had chosen, since there appeared to be little rhyme or reason to it.

I'd love to get involved with the thought process involved, and see why item "X" is considered so much nicer than item "Y"

so would I! we were talking about the state fair entries at a bead meeting a couple of weeks ago. i get really tired of seeing "winning" entries that are patterns out of magazines, in ALL the crafts. patterns my grandmother taught me when i was growing up. i even know most of the magazines they came from! all that amounts to is "how well you can follow directions".

Ndbele or Herringbone stitch. It adds a lot of texture to and otherwise "flat" piece. The museum original has the beads stung horizontally on gold wires, and I didn't care for it.Ndeble is a off loom stitch, and works up rather quickly
