Yes, I think so too. I also think it may be related to overstimulation and overstress, the way many animals can get sick when their environment is too far off from what it should be. We are, after all, animals. I think the nervous system starts to self-destruct, sort of turns on itself. Music becomes pain, movement becomes pain, color becomes pain, light becomes pain... the animal is in a hostile environment for too long, and it curls into a ball and dies. Why does it curl into a ball? Because its senses have started to reinterpret formerly benign stimuli as pain.
We've created an enviroment that is so toxic to our bodies and senses that we are making our own precious ones self-destruct, and although I can see a path to prevention (a path that would require a complete revision of our society) I can't see a path to a cure.

Oh god. My only advice is to have her get as much support as possible. It seems the very best thing, according to my research, is emotional support from loved ones. But it sounds like she's not in a place geographically where she's got much family and friends surrounding her.

Yes I agree -- you and Tina have the right basis of what fibro is about. I think the envirnomental poisoning weakens our systems so that we can fall prey to these things -- like fibro. It's all so complicated.

Sooz, I'm so sorry. Don't know about cute, and luckily not dealing with much pain right now, but I am learning about fatigue.
One of the drugs I'm taking causes extreme sensitivity to cold or hot. It feels like a joy buzzer if I pick up a knife out of the drawer. Very bizarre. And yet, How can I even make myself a sandwich if I can't touch anything in the fridge? If I cry, the hot tears causes the sinuses to hurt. (and I do cry more than I used to) Tonight I ate dinner with napkins wrapped around my silverware.
Oh crap, I digressed. Sorry, I was talking about fatigue. These days, I can only shop in stores with carts so I can lean on something. And then I have to rest while DH checks out for me. At work, I am so tired I can barely keep my eyes open, yet when I get home I can't sleep without sleep aids. I know it's all temporary - and I can deal with it all as long as it does the job. Next week Cat Scan and Chest X-ray to find out if the stuff is working. Scared to go, and yet I have to know. (Chest x-ray is to find out if it has spread to the lungs. If so, brain is next, God forbid.)
