Canadian source for Orvus?

Don't the horse/feed supply stores carry it? Its original use was for washing horses. Mind they supply it by the drum or something like that. I seem to recall Federated Co-op carried it.

I've always used lingerie soap or dish washing liquid. Dora

I bought a gallon at our feed store; have given some to friends and still have oodles left over. It cost me $19.00 IIRC. Good stuff. I would mail some to Rdmonton, but I don't think liquids would be very acceptable by the authorities right now!

You should be able to get it at your local horse tackle supply store. And since you are in Alberta, I suspect you shouldn't have a problem finding one of those. I live just outside Toronto, and I got my jar at a place that sold riding gear, bits, bridles etc.(unfortunately now closed). They had to order it in for me (took about three weeks) and it cost me about $40 Cnd, but that was at least three years ago, and I haven't even used a 10th. If you don't want/need such a large quantity, look for "Treasure Wash" at your LNS (or on-line) which IIRC is just Orvus repackaged in small quantities.

If you don't want to hit the feed store for a lifetime supply, usually any quilting shops would carry it. I'd think there must be some in Canada - though I don't know where the original questioner is.

FWIW - in the shop we just use the plain, unscented, unextra anything Ivory liquid dishwashing soap. Works great - gentle soak, swish, and usually with some white vinegar in the mix.

For knitted stuff, I do use the Eucalan lavender - no rinse - seems to do something good for the real natural yarns. Never woolite - too harsh.

Ah, but Gill, Orvus solidifies when it's cool, which it certainly would be by the time it got to Canada! :)

I'd send you a supply, Mickey, but with Canadian post the way it is, you certainly wouldn't get it before Christmas, even from this close!

LOL! You're right about Canada Post, Joan. But the temperatures in Edmonton have been above freezing for the past few days, so I'm not even sure it would be a solid now.

It doesn't have to be *that* cold to solidify!!! :) It's a solid in my basement, which is probably about 65-68F. It starts liquifying somewhere around 80.

So you just take a scoop and mix with warm water. Or if in a smaller bottle

- let it sit in some warm water for a couple of minutes. Nothing like scooping out some gellified Orvus to wash the horses - yum.
