DR Brat

While in Florence and Venice, I often had the urge to fall on my knees in amazement. And I spent the entire time thanking my college advisor for insisting I audit the art history course. While I think I would have enjoyed the paintings and sculpture with out the background knowledge, my pleasure was so much more knowing what I was seeing.

You know, Sue, We passed that sign a million times when we were going to the VA Hospital to do "good works". I now wish we had taken a few minutes out, and visited it. I rmember when DDH (as in dear departed) and I were first married, we lived in Groton CT, and NEVER went to Mystic, that was in it's earlier days. Now I am pushing "pre-elderly" I am determined to see whatever is near to us!

Here in California, it's any intersection, whether or not a crossing is marked. Anywhere other than an intersection marked or unmarked or any other marked crossing, is jaywalking.

The original comment was trashing, not the one you quoted. She, out of ignorance, made a comment about Cleveland which was untrue and unkind.

But even a jaywalking pedestrian has the right of way over an automobile....

Could you two please come visit and give some seminars to our local drivers, who don't seem to recall that law once they've passed the test. I can count the number of people who've stopped for me easier than the number who've tried to run me over and then given me the finger for daring to be halfway across the street when they came around the corner on two wheels.

Depends were you are. Don't remember the city/state, but if a jaywalker (ie crossing not at a designated crosswalk or light) is hit, it is assumed the walker is at fault. It was on the list of "helpful hints" from the rental car company (mind you, you better watch out anyway).

I know in NYC that jaywalkers can be ticketed for crossing against the light or not at a cross walk. Don't know how often it happens, but there is a family story about his grandmother getting one and her giving the officer a tongue lashing in German.

I never got a ticket but I too got a tongue lashing for jay walking in NYC. They were very strict about it.

Sorry for being less than clear; I should have specified that "designated crossing" includes intersections.

Despite not being actively enforced, this is the law in Chicago as well. In fact, there was a recent move among the aldermen to get this law back into active status (or whatever) in order to generate more income for the City. Didn't succeed, though, because one or two aldermen made the rest finally realize that the increase in traffic safety staff needed in order to watch for and write tickets against offenses would more than eat up any money collected. They didn't repeal the law, though, so we're still running the risk (as always) anytime we don't wait for the lights.

Why does my server refuse your website? It says "error 403 forbidden. Do NOT request again". |Could it be something to do with the needle-ful? Could they suspect it of being a drug site or something? Has anyone else tried?

I just tried the same thing, and got the same very strong note back.

I got the message too. I don't know what OS is on the server to produce such a message, but I don't think it has anything to do with suspicions of it being a drug site. I'm guessing the server hosting that domain is majorly fried or someone has really botched a setting.

So YOU're the forbidden that's showing up in Blogpatrol!!!! I was wondering who that was.

If you're clicking the link in my sigline (at least I'm assuming it's coming through as a link for you, it does on my screen) then I have no idea why your server dislikes me.

If you're typing it in, maybe the hyphen is being put in the wrong place, based on how you typed it above?

Can you get to this page:

Okay, since it's NOT just Pat, let me go do some digging and see if I can figure it out. I wonder if the php includes are causing this...

Reply to

Yeah, I know, I'm replying to myself.... and yes it looks like the php is the problem. They only want HTML for the index page. Guess I'm going to be making a few minor changes today!
