I picked up the rest of the floss I need for my Christmas Gentleman project over the weekend. As I saw the skeins in pile I was struck by how the colors all seemed to be of a set. Some quality I'm not sure how to identify made this blue, that red, and this green (and specific browns, golds, roses, peaches) belong together. I had the thought at the time that belonging together is why you would purchase the specific skeins called for by the designer and not just any blue, red and green from your stash. That went with the thought that the designer was a designer because they had the ability to choose or define the right color palette.
Well, I'm obviously not an artist but I do strive to be a craftsman. My questions are - Do DMC color families contribute to this belonging together or What defines a color family? How would one use a family designation and is there an official list of families and their members. I hope I used the terms correctly. Thanks Theresa
