Comcast SUCKS! With the local cable TV, when they came to this area and got the franchise they said they would keep the excellent service established by the predecessor. HO HO HO First, they jacked up the price. Now they are removing stations from the basic cable services and moving them to HDTV. If I want to see those stations I have to pay extra. And, of course, they are not offering any price reduction for the basic services. I consider it a form of theft.

As to the Comcast internet stuff, I have heard of nothing but complaints from people, first that their techies can't get things set up properly and are even screwing up peoples' computers. And now this reduction of services!

Comcast is in the middle of a huge sales effort, trying to get people to switch their phones and internet. They are offering reduced prices as teasers, but that only lasts a little while, and they won't say how much the regular prices will be.

I won't allow their staff into my home and won't allow them to touch my computer or TV or phone lines, and every time they call me -- which I have repeatedly asked them NOT to do -- I tell the poor fool on the other end of the line what I think of Comcast and then suggest they get other jobs with honorable companies.

My phone service and internet services are with other companies, and I'm beginning to think that a satellite dish on the roof doesn't look so bad! The only reason I haven't cancelled Comcast yet is that all hell is breaking out with complaints to the local city council, and I'm hoping they get it straightened out.

What a crock!

Same here. A friend's company was using Comcast to access the Net, but with their old CompanyName.com e-mail address. After 3 months, it still didn't work right, and Comcast kept blaming their computers, their webhost, their router ... anything except Comcast's installation, which was the only thing that had changed. Even when they tried setting up an e-mail @Comcast, they had problems, proving that the problem was not with their webhost not forwarding e-mail properly, but Comcast still tried to pin the blame on everything but Comcast.

You KNOW it's bad when you're calling your friend on dial-up (me) to do your online research.

I'm stuck with Comcast for cable TV, since I'm in a historic preservation district and no antenna or dish is allowed on the roof. There's another cable provider in town, but they started by wiring up the newest neighborhoods and haven't made it to my neighborhood yet.

But definitely, if I decide to spend the extra for highspeed internet, I'll find someone else to provide it.

I've got the same problem--no antenna or dish on the roof is allowed. We also have the basic cable cost in our homeowner's monthly fee so if we changed providers we would be paying that first basic price twice.

There are no other cable providers here so if we want the extra high speed cable internet, it's Comcast or no one.

I've had Comcast set up as a secured wireless network in the house for several years now and have been really happy with them. I've had no trouble with their email service, which allows me to use two other email aliases (I never use my comcast address) without a hitch. Their usenet service occasionally goes down, but not for long. I hadn't heard that they'll be discontinuing newsgroups. That's a real pain, actually.

Comcast has been pretty good for us as an ISP. But after Adelphia, even AOL would have looked good.

Spot on. I guess nothing could be worse then Adelphia, but I can't get excited about my service. It's been spotty and fairly often shuts down my computer and TV right when I'm in the middle of something important on the computer or at the end of some mystery show so that I don't know who was the murderer. Those are the times I would like to murder them.

They keep telling me it's because they're still in the process of upgrading, but it's been a hell of a long time. I find the service personnel that comes to the house not bad and most often polite and knowedgeable but the telephone help is another story. They seem to know one thing--reboot. Blech!!

Thanks for the link. Now I can go back to using Free Agent. I Do Not like Gooogle's handling of groups!

I've actually used Google Groups for this group and have been content wit the free service. We use dial-up :-( because satelitte is very expensive and we can't get cable where we are in southern michigan.

I've been happily using motzarella since my ISP dropped Usenet several years ago; I've never had a single problem with it, and recommend it highly.

Not a chance; if you ask them, your ISP will instead tell you that so few of their subscribers bothered with Usenet that it no longer made sense for them to carry it at all ;D

Yeppers because if it wasn't that they would tell you it was your computer lololol

I live in Montreal and a few weeks ago my internet provider canceled the newsgroup. I then signed up through google. Take care, Roz in Montreal

I've gotten that line from them, too, claiming that my email client -- Thunderbird -- had to be the problem and that I should uninstall and reinstall it ;) Turned out that what really happened was my provider had messed something up in some way and about a third of their clients couldn't access email for a few days.

At least when Eastlink dropped the binary groups they not only let us know several times what date they would do it on the local group where we showed our pics but they emailed their customers too.

That was nice of them! Rogers was actually pretty good about notification as well; each of my email accounts received notice. Frankly, I was pleasantly surprised, and it allowed me time to get an alternative in place rather than just finding newsgroups gone.
