OT: Helping the "Little" Evacuees

Hi Guys, I just finished making up some small blankies for the little evacuees. A few months ago, I got 3 yards of ELMO polar fleece at eBay. I wanted it to make a winter coat for the SMDGD -- didn't need 3 yards but that's how much the auction was for. Well, I have kept 1 yard aside for the jacket and cut the other 2 yards into 4 squarish pieces. I rounded the edges and then serged the whole thing and I now have 4 blankies to donate for some little rugrats who like ELMO. I wanted to post to remind those of you who want to do more than just send $$ and have sewing machines -- NOT SERGERS but regular sewing machines -- that it's very easy to make a polar fleece blanket. All you really need is a zig zag stitch on your machine. If you have what is called a shell tuck (looks like this ___/\___/\___/\___ ) that works good too. Just buy a yard of fleece (or any fun fabric suitable for a kids blankie) cut it in half lengthwise so you have two almost square pieces, round the corners and then do a zig zag along the edge. Polar fleece doesn't ravel so, if you don't have a sewing machine just cut the edges in a sort of wavy design or with pinking shears and -- VOILA -- you have a blankie for some poor little child who has lost all his or her toys and beloved possessions. The SMDGD's coat will now be made with coordinating fleece fabric for the collar, cuffs, lapels, pockets, etc. I will probably be cuter that way anyhow :-)! CiaoMeow >^;;^<
