OT: IvyJane Update

Hi Guys, We got IvyJane (Garbanzo Brain's) records and she is older than originally thought -- BUT -- she was absolutely meant to be OUR baby, especially DH's. She was a rescued stray kitten and found on -- drum roll please -- DH'S B-DAY 2003 !!!! Of course, this means she is at least 5 years old in addition to having spent the last 5 years either in a cage or in foster care (not necessarily with the same family). Considering all of this, I truly think she is making tremendous progress adjusting to her new home. She hides almost all day long but we do see her occasionally in the evening. Yesterday morning she was sitting in the doorway to the computer room. This morning was even MORE impressive. I was in our large walk-in closet, door open, putting on my robe and when I turned around, there was IvyJane standing behind me only about 4 feet away! She saw me move and scampered through the bathroom into the bedroom and sat down. Cassie (Baby Cat) got up and started walking across the bed and that sent IvyJane into panic mode and she was going to run under the bed but Cassie jumped down on the same side of the bed. IvyJane took off the other direction and went to hide again :-). Just the fact that this skittish little lady would have enough chutzpah to make her way into the bedroom, through the bathroom and then into the closet -- only 2 days after getting here -- let's me know that she has "the right stuff" and will be able to adjust given enough time. I am just soooooo pleased with her. I'm also very happy that the paperwork says she was rescued on DH's b-day. He misses Reno (Black Cat) terribly because she was his favourite as she would sit with him on the sofa and share his cereal milk, etc. I wish you could have seen the look on his face when I showed him the paperwork and he saw when IvyJane was rescued :-))))). Thanks for the link to the other pix - the dogs are gorgeous, and the pictures well done. They look so happy.

That's a pretty doggy room! Sounds like fun.

One of my neighbors once had a birthday party for her English Sheepdog and invited 10 other Sheepdogs, each of whom had to be invited by their human kid.

We didn't have back yards so she had the party in her driveway. Lots of fun to see all those enormous hairballs romping around.

Elise is amazing with many animals, especially dogs. They seem to trust her. Even the "I hate everyone except my pack" Brittany Spaniel across the street wants her to scratch his ears and shows her where the treats are. (he usually cowers in his kennel with strangers")

Good namesake - we share that in common. Also, for me, the cats that don't like strangers will usually come to share - just for the joy of my allergies I'm sure. I was always the one at the barn to deal with fractious beasties as well, for some reason I communicate better with them, than with humans. Hard to believe. I wasn't so positive about it with the horses, until I'd started teaching some lessons and realized that if I got on the horse that was giving it's rider some problems, just for a couple of minutes - voila - things got much better for the rider after. Or a few words, some contact and made things better. But even young, I was always one of the barn rats the stable manager would send to "deal with XXXX" someone having a temperamental moment, or that needed to be worked before being used for a lesson, or an owner coming in, or just needed to be calmed down for grooming.

I think some people just do really well with animals, while most of us are normal - some animals love us, we love them, some just neutral in happy co-existence, and some skittish both ways.
