OT: Musings on the London bombings.

I really thought it was that anything said in the confessional could not be repeated, whether it was confessing that they actually committed a crime, or were intending to. I would fully anticipate a priest would try to counsel a person towards a legal and ethical action. I can see where a counseling session would also fall under a certain level of confidentiality.

Nope - not trying to blow up any statements at all - just couldn't quite understand what you were trying to say. Thanks for the explanation of your statement.

Well then - yeah they are. If someone came to your door with a bloody chainsaw ... would you think he was just selling fresh-killed chickens? Geesh

You said it in a nutshell Gill - 'tommy-rot'. I would just think that something so evident as a bloody chainsaw would just make an official at the border to 'take a second glance' especially when he had so many other weapons on him. The only positive thing about this whole thing was that the murdering bugger was caught. Maybe I'd like to live in a perfect world.

The blood was two days old when he went thru and I've never seen two-day-old blood on a chainsaw and now I'd really like to see it compared to rust - very interesting. I guess maybe when it's so close to home - it's hard to see the forest for the trees, if you know what I mean. You make a very valid point. I hope you are more than right about the training of the Customs officers - and by the way I don't mind a whit about being detained to answer all their (what seem to be) so foolish questions when I go over - it somehow makes me feel safer.

We are really swaying from the subject line (and that's my fault a lot) - don't know if I'm familiar with this case ... is that the family that was murdered and the little boy and girl kidnapped - and the little girl was found but the little boy's remains were found recently? ( if so) Oh I know exactly how I'd deal with perverts like that ... they'd never see the light of day again. My husband often says if I was in charge of the prisons for just one month, they'd all have a 'vacancy' sign hanging outside.

Brenda , there is a catch in your words here, Suicide attackers , do so `in the name of their faith` , Usually they are encouraged and helped by Sebders, who provide them with the explosives. And most of them prepared a video , in which they are seen all dressed up for their `mission`, and where they speak about their intention. Many a time a younger member of a family was sent by an older member , There was a case of a Woman , whose husband wanted to get rid off , so he accused her of being unfaithful , and if she won`t kill herself this way , there won`t be food for her kids , Suicide bombers`s families This side of the world get paid. Before Sadam Hussein`s fall , his people would give big sums of money here. and i can assume same works in other countries. In other casses young boys were sent , somehow made to do it, but frightened. Senders are well trained in locating those youngersters that will do it. mirjam

This is all so sad Mirjam - your country isn't the only one where threats and money have made people do things they'd never dream of doing in more peaceful times.

You`re pefectly right - NOTHING said in the confessional in the Catholic Church can be disclosed.

You mean you actually run upstairs to look out and see who it is? Why on earth don`t you get a spyhole fitted!!! LOL!

Luckily we live in a bungalow which has the front door at a right angle to the lounge window - great for seeing who`s there, not so good if you have to be carted out on a stretcher, as I found out when they had to cart me around the side of the house, fighting past the rather healthy Ivy and very scratchy shrubs!

But think how BORING it would be, Sharon.

And that`s another reason we`ll never stop them. They have a totally different mind-set to we "native" Europeans. There`s no way any sane European would co-operate with such plans.

I obviously did not make myself clear. What I am looking for is the Imams and other leaders to tell Muslims that they *must* cooperate with law enforcement officials in giving information that may lead to finding future bombings *before* they happen. I understand there are schools in places like Pakistan where pupils are taught to hate Jews and other non-Muslims. Here in Ottawa we had a potentially nasty situation where a boy around 8 years old, at an all Muslim school, wrote an essay in which he praised the killing of Jews. Two of the staff allegedly praised the essay. I suspect it was somewhat of an exaggerated media event, but this is the sort of thing that I believe Muslims Imams and other leaders must eradicate from their education system. Muslim leaders need to teach the faithful that there is a potential cancer in the midst of Muslim communities in western democracies, and it is very much in the interest of these Muslim communities to see that this cancer is permanently removed. All Muslims should do all they can in this regard.

You're right - but surely we can find things to spark our interests other than murder and mayhem. A person can't even find a decent movie to go to these days without all that banging, smashing and blood. Yech Oh for the days of Gone With The Wind (I'm a dreamer, right?)
