Hi, I haven't been as active on rctn lately -- busy writing Double Knit. But now I have a new book coming out in a few weeks and I'm stuck, again, on a brief phrase to put in it when I do signings. If someone sends me something I can use, I'll send him/her a copy of the book.
The story, in brief (no spoilers, but perhaps more detail than you want about the story):
Godwin has a huge fight with his partner John and John throws him out. Betsy suspects it's because Godwin took John to Mexico City, and John, a control freak, resented being the passenger instead of the pilot on the trip. Anyway, John doesn't call, as he usually does after a quarrel, and when he doesn't go to work, either, Godwin gets Betsy to go with him to John's house. John is found murdered. He was so furious with Godwin that he was in the early stages of changing his well, cutting Godwin out. So naturally the police think Godwin did it, and he is dragged, hysterical, out of Crewel World and taken to jail. Betsy hires a good lawyer for him and then starts her own investigation. John was building a secret identity -- why? -- and surfing the web for likely young men even before the quarrel. Betsy finds an intrepid young woman at John's law firm eager to dig up dirt on John. Too eager? She's digging up dirt on everyone! All the people Betsy talks to have a story to tell, but everyone embroiders the truth even when they're trying not to. Betsy must sort among the stories to find the clues to the real killer.
Right now I am leaning toward the first phrase of the Spanish saying that is at the front of the book: Toda es segun el color del cristal con que se mira. Everything depends on the color of the glass you look through. How about: Toda es segun el color -- Everything depends on the color. Not a bad thought for stitchers, right? But can someone out there do better? Thanks in advance. Please reply directly to me.
