OT: Steve Irwin

They're saying on the news here (Melbourne, Australia) that he died a couple of hours ago from a stingray or jellyfish attack.

I wasn't a huge fan, but it's sad all the same (if it's a correct report). :(

I'm in Perth and just heard this too, and there seems to be no doubt it is a correct report - he was stung in the heart by the barb from a sting-ray.

Likewise I was not a great fan, but that is not an exit from this mortal coil I'd wish on anyone.

Yes, I heard it on the BBC World news during the night - he was stung in the heart(?) or at least on the chest by a stingray.

I used to find him completely OTT and irritating, but as you say, it`s very sad. I actually thought a crocodile or snake would get him!

I enjoyed him - most of the time. Some how, even if it wasn't a croc, it seems a fitting, though early end, to his career.

Yup. We were having morning coffee and it came on the news. I guess the location of the sting - said it was a barb from a stingray tail - hitting him in the heart while diving on the Great Barrier Reef - just short-circuited the electrical system of his body.

We had mixed feelings about his shows - but still it's always sad when someone leaves a family with young children behind.

The post shows on my reader as HTML, or binary, and therefore mostly hieroglyphics, it causes (in a text only group) other posts to be dropped to accommodate it's size.

I noticed it because I had to check with Lucille that my post with rhubarb recipe actually made it.

I don't think the issue was with the content, but the formatting. On my reader it showed up in a different font than plain text posts.

If this is your attitude, thank god you did ! It's usenet, so of course it is text only, unless it is marked binary. It's very straight forward and it is mainly a matter of courtesy. I take it you feel that your post was of such priority that it was unimportant that it bumped a few dozen posts by other people.
