I try to stitch some each day but I try to get in some physical activities also. What do you do for exercise? I do lots of things that aren't considered real or organized exercise but do manage to get to water or floor aerobics a couple of times a week. I am semi-retired so I may have more disposable time than most folks here. aeromom
I am really working on it right now, because I wound up taking most of a year off due to some health issues. I need to lose those last 5 pounds so I am really upping my exercise. I run with my dogs at least
2-3 times a week for 3.5 to 4 miles and walk at lunchtime 4 or 5 times a week - I do 1.5 to 2 miles then. When I don't need to lose any weight, I'll cut a half mile off each of those. Additionally, I try to do some situps/abs work a couple of times a week to keep my back from hurting. In my house, I feel like the lazy bones. My dh is as big around as a stick and does even more - Nordic Track for an hour two or three times a week, runs sometimes, lifts weights. He's a mountain climber when he can be. My dd swims 2.5 hours 5 or 6 times a week. DS is on three baseball teams (just for another week or so, thank goodness!), rides his bike long distances and was on the track team this past spring. He is searching for something to do this winter - basketball or swim, probably.
Housework!!! -Toting heavy baskets of laundry while weaving between the dog and any number of cats is challenging. Also get some outside air on nice days when I hang the clothes out to dry (and only use the dryer for towels & jeans, and to soften all else on the no-heat cycle). -Vacuuming - that will work up a sweat, plus several trips to the trash outside to empty the dirt cup (we have a Dyson, and while convenient, it still gives a puff of dust/dirt when the bin is opened, and when the dirt hits the trash can, so we take the cup outside to empty it). -Walking the dog (again outside air). Plus upper body exercise controlling the dog who wants to go every which way and smell everything - all at once! Frequent breaks when he stops to "mark" something (he's been neutered, so this is purely an instinctual act), even when he's out of pee and just end up dribbling.. -Toting 25+ lbs of school books & supplies 3x a week, to/from car, around campus, up & down stairs.... I have actually lost 20 lbs by *NOT* using the elevator! -Dishes! Granted, we have a dishwasher, but there is still lots of bending to be done when loading and unloading, plus reaching when putting dishes away!
Yep. That's what a lot of people don't understand. I think I do *more* physical movement to load/unload the dishwasher than doing the dishes by hand, where it's just reach across the counter with the next plate, no bending required.
I got home from the hospital at lunchtime. Apparently my lungs are now clear, but it seems my legs are made of cooked spaghetti, so my big exercise at the moment is heaving my helpless self off the couch to go to the dining table (thank goodness for dh) or the bathroom.
