Just to add to the confusion, I understand the terms Near, Middle and Far East come from the British military. At the height of the British empire, the UK military had three major bases outside tha UK. These were Near East Command, based in Cyprus; Middle East Command, based in Aden; and Far East Command, based in Singapore. I think I have the locations correct. During WWII, the Germans occupied Cyprus, so Near East Command disappeared, and control went to Middle East Command. Far East Command remained active, but I believe moved to somewhere in India. After WWII, the term Near East simply disappeared.

Not quite - when I served at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus 1965-67 we were part of HQNEAF (HQ Near East Air Force) based at RAF Episkopi; HQMEAF (HQ Middle East Air Force) was at RAF Khormaksar in the Aden Protectorate.

I had occasion to go through a major genetics study at Johns Hopkins because my family carries a defective gene that to date has only shown up in Jewish couples with no intermarriage in the group. They came to the conclusion that we were a race descended from the original 12 tribes. They weren't even remotely interested in anything about religion.

Thanks for that info. I knew there had to be some sort of geographical line that marked the difference but had no idea what or where. I'm also sure I learned it eons ago in school (12 years of a good Catholic school does that to you) and had just forgotten it! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Or belong to the Jewish TRIBE , there are many Secular Jews, religious Jews and various levels of Traditional Jews .. Maybe it will more clear to say the Jewish Culture And heritage. There are many prayers and songs that are Common to all groups . During generations in Diaspora , people took care to teach their children Hebrew prayers ,, And to marry only within the `Tribe`,,,

Nationality is mostly [but not always] connected to a territory , In Israel we also have Israeli ... Christians Arabs, and Muslims Arabs, and christians from other countries /nationalities. Bahaay Druz, Cherkesch , Armenians ,Minorities. but the biggest number are Jewish. =A0Jewish is a religion, NOT a nationality.
