Re: Happiness is

I will say it again -- I am talking about actual physical nationality (this has absolutely nothing to do with a persons religious affiliation or cultural background) as in the piece of the world, the nation, a person actually has citizenship in. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

This is the very reason I said that being Jewish isn't a "physical" nationality -- Jewish is a religion, not a physical nation. All I can assume is that something in the beginning of my posts have caused some sort of emotional reaction so they weren't read all the way through because that is what I have said repeatedly. I wasn't addressing other sorts of nationality, just the physical sort as in the actual piece of the planet in which a person has citizenship. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

NOPE -- I truly feel my idea is best -- they belong on another planet. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

There is currently no area of the globe, no physical location marked with the name Judea. Now -- another question if someone would answer it

-- I wonder why, when the country of Israel that we know of today was "created", it was called Israel and not Judea? I'm sure this is based on something biblical in nature, but, not being any sort of biblical scholar, I can't even have an informed opinion, hence the question! IIRC, there were the twelve tribes of Israel (this term meaning their religious beliefs) and they originally lived in the part of the world called Judea. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I've been reading them all the way through. You are conflating citizenship and nationality which ARE NOT the same thing. In the US, citizenship and nationality are considered the same, but they are not in many, many other places. A person might be a citizen of Spain, but of Basque nationality. They might be a citizen of the Russian Federation, but of Buryat or Chechen or Tatar nationality. It's just not as simple as you've been arguing that it is.

This is just simply factually incorrect. Look it up if you don't believe me. It's part of the reason certain groups in Israel insist on settling in the West Bank.

I looked it up in my atlas before I posted my question and could find no specific piece of land that was named Judea! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

If you go to Google and type in the words Ancient Map of Judea It will give you dozens to look at.

Although names change as time passes, the facts remain the facts.

But that still doesn't tell me WHY the area was named Israel and not Judea. I'm not saying that culturally, there is no place people refer to as Judea, I'm wondering WHY Israel was named Israel and not Judea when the country was "created" after the war. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I guess I should go to Google and learn more now.

I was talking to my sister yesterday, whose daughter is an asst. principal in a grade school in Seattle. My niece had to suspend *a 5 year old* because he was so out of control, throwing scissors and other things. Turns out his parents, 3 weeks after school started, left for a 3-week vacation and left their son with his grandparents. They were so distraught by his behavior that, when they came to talk to DN, the grandfather was in *tears* of frustration with the poor child! They had no clue how to handle a child this out-of-control. Here is one child whose outlook is very bleak without intervention, for sure.

AHHH, OK, thanks. I'm still confused on why there is biblical reference to both Judea and Israel. The feeling I have -- and mind, it's just a feeling of a memory from bible lessons of long ago -- is that Judea was the biblical name for the actual land but Israel was more of an emotional or cultural entity. DH and I were talking about this last night and I made the comment that I think the word Jew comes from the word Judea but they are spelled so differently. That got me to wondering who decided on the spelling. I do think of odd things that are related to a topic but have no real bearing on it -- LOL! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Actually, both Judea and Samaria are smaller than Israel, not the other way around:

Your atlas is perhaps not sufficiently detailed. It's not a very large area, but it does indeed still exist.

Nope. Isreal was the name for the actual land as well:

Nah. Read some more and apparently you are correct. Historically, the Romans referred to the whole area as Judea, even though the original Judea was part of the kingdom of Israel. Talk about confusing.

I know when my DDH's uncle left Poland in about 1930 to go off with Herzl, he didn't go to Judea or Israel. He went to Palestine. It wasn't until after 1947 or 48 when it was declared a state, that it was back to being called Israel.

The whole area has been named and renamed over and over again.
