Re: OT: Peeves about websites

There is nothing more annoying than back buttons which don't work,

These annoying things are enough to make me not > make a purchase and go elsewhere. I mean, there is certainly enough > selection all over the Internet(s), as Pres. See my prior response. Plus, I'd point out that not everyone is always at the computer and able to "promptly" respond to a question.

Dyan's original post said the new designs were under new releases. And that there was a Halloween freebie for members. I guess it wasn't clear that she meant the KustomKrafts yahoo group members. Took me all of about 90 seconds to figure that out by hitting her website, going through a couple of pages, and hitting the XS page button - which clearly has the sign-up block, along with other links.

AND, my legs hurt today. I pulled ten weeds yesterday and now I'm in a > complete fibroflare. That may be the single most annoying thing I can > muster. I just came out of one and now right back into it. Very > frustrating. > > Victoria

Sorry about your legs. Try giving yourself, and some others a touch of the Buddhist patience.

Splenda not the same. Equal and Sweet & Low yes. That's part of why you can bake with Splenda, it can be heated.

But, honestly, my DA, the doctor, has always asserted that it's much better to use a small amount of real sugar (and take care of your teeth) than the chemical sweeteners. And, I have to say, I hope all of us look as good as her (and she doesn't exercise, beyond taking the dog to the doggie park). Nor diet - though she isn't an overeater.

I don't use much sugar so don't need to sub, but I hear a lot being said about this plant (which anyone can grow) that sweetens naturally

- clearly not much sugar doesn't help brain cells for I can't remember it's name - it was always used by SA natives.

I agree though, I think a little of the natural product is far more beneficial than those sweeteners. I am pretty much a super taster and I can't bear them, they leave a chemical taste in my mouth that stays with me for a couple of hours. I am alarmed when I see how much Diet soda is being drunk and although all these sweeteners have been tested as safe for adults, they have not done tests on what it is doing to a fetus when the mother drinks diet rubbish. It is in many things apart from diet drinks.

Try using honey instead of sugar - delicious!

Interesting, in that for archery, most RH people hold the bow with their LH, and draw with the RH. Plus, it's pretty typical for a RH person to be L eye dominant - as the optic nerve crosses in the middle of your brain.

Funny. But Tony Braxton does look really good.

The plant is called Stevia. Its commercial use is banned in the US due to some seriously flawed studies performed. It gives a very nice sweetness when used. I like it.

Your comment about pregnant mothers caught my attention. While I agree with you about diet drinks, it's becoming more and more difficult to make snap judgments like that. Looking at some recent studies into the sudden glut of asthmatic children, do you know what the leading theory is, as far as the cause?

Prenatal vitamins.

A few hours later and I recall the stuff I was thinking of is stevia.

I remembered Stevia ..later lol. I was wondering one day about all the diet drinks and the striking rise in autistic children and ADD etc. It would seem it is caused, but by what ? I think if I were pregnant now I would stay as close to natural as humanly possibly.

If you like the taste of honey, which I don't, go for it but sugar is sugar and one really isn't healthier then the other. Sugar is sugar.

Funny you brought this up - I'm definitely right-handed but when I was on the gymnastics team many (mumble mumble) years ago I could only perform certain things left-handed - such as cartwheels, round-ups, etc. Couldn't do them right-handed to save my life. I could also swing a baseball bat with either hand. Photography and shooting I find myself using my left eye through the lens/scope and just can't do it with my right.

Glad to know I'm not quite as weird as I thought :P

I'm with you - although I never thought of myself as a "super taster". I cannot abide the artificial taste of many things - I can't stand diet sodas because of the odd aftertaste and won't eat things like yogurts and such with aspertame in them - yuck. Real sugar only has about 16 calories per teaspoon - just remember moderation in all things. I do a lot of baking and cooking from scratch and as such I find I don't even like much processed "package" foods - even things like brownies or frozen lasagne or gawd-help-us Hamburger Helper cr*p because of the artificial taste to me. I don't even like fast food much - other than the occasional In-N-Out burger :) I'd rather buy the ingredients fresh where possible and just make it myself. If I'm going to spend the money on food I want to enjoy the product. Being a foodie, the work to get the end result is part of the enjoyment to me.

But even that isn't the solution. Two of my co-workers were pregnant at the same time. One smoked like a chimney and essentially lived on Taco Bell. The other was a vegetarian anyway, and for the next 9 months avoided caffeine, chocolate, etc.

Guess which child was healthy as a horse and which one made repeated trips back to the hospital?

Except that when using honey for baking, you have to rejigger the other measurements to allow for the extra moisture from the honey.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some kind of link. The prenatal vitamin thing really bothered me when I was reading about it. The really unnerving thing was that not only is the fetus affected, but that (assuming the fetus is female) their eggs are affected as well. So your carelessness or (unintentional) ignorance not only affects your children, but your grandchildren as well. Eek!

I've elected not to have children partially because I'll readily admit that the idea of making one wrong move and harming two generations of offspring is more than my tiny self-esteem and self-confidence can take.

The cat doesn't care if I take my vitamins or not... Becky A.

There are no magic subs for things. Especially if you have medical conditions that are out of the "norm" - people really do have to be responsible to find out what will harm them - or not.

Good that you did the research. For the general population, I think Splenda is less awful than the other artificial stuff. Personally, I just avoid them all. Works out as I have not much of a sweet tooth - except for really good chocolate - and, well, I can't eat much of it anyhow. Don't sweeten tea or coffee, maybe a drop of honey at times. And things I cook which use sugar, well, a 1/4 teaspoon per serving or so isn't really going to be the reason we need to be on WW.

Good checking.

Slightly different as to degrees of sweetness, and where the catabolism (break down) starts so as to how they affect teeth for example. But, the calories are similar, and just they all end up in some glycolosis, IIRC. The big thing with sweets is how many calories versus usable nutritional content

- and candies have very high calorie counts versus what gets stored or burned guickly.

Vic, you may want to rethink this decision. Check out the following news item that came out a couple months ago:

'm a firm believer that "real" is far better for our bodies than thefake stuff. Real sugar (yes, I know it's processed, but it comes fromsugar beets or sugar cane), real butter. And we all now know thatmargarine is worse for you than butter! :) Joan
