Seeking Russian themes

A co-worker is in the process of adopting 2 little girls from Russia. I volunteered to do a sampler celebrating the adoption. I was thinking of designing something incorporating both American and Russian motifs - for example, the flags of both countries. Does anybody have any sources for Russian motifs or designs?

Thanks in advance. Connie and the little Ragamuffin

'll find lots of ideas. You have to scroll down a bit, but there's lots of designs that you can incorporate that are indicative of Russia. Hope that helps a little. Google on "Russian Embroidery" and see what else pops up.

Bestitched has a Russian sampler. You could leave off the onion dome skyline at the bottom, and just do the Russian alphabet at the top in red/white/blue. One of the overdyes comes in a R/W/B called "4th of July", to make your life easier.

Or perhaps an "adoption sampler" for each of them, with her Russian name and birth date stitched in Cyrillic alphabet, her new name and adoption date underneath?

(Oh, ROFL, spellcheck wants to replace the company name with Best Itched.)

Sounds like a large percentage of my body currently. Geocaching run Saturday landed us in a mosquito-heavy area out somewhere in Placer County. I even got nailed *through* clothing!

Popping in late because of computer problems... Karen mentioned the "Russian Nights Sampler" by Bestitched by Bev, but be warned that it's an incomplete character set. See mine in the "Cross Stitch 1" album in my Picture Trail Gallery. I altered mine to include the complete character set, and also signed it with the Russian transliteration of my first and last names. Also, Linn Skinner has a pre-Revolutionary character set that was a freebie at CATS Burbank. Darla Sacred cows make great hamburgers. Picture Trail Gallery:
