Fabric suggestions welcomed!

I've had in my mind to do a project for my BIL and his wife using M-Designs Celtic Heart and the M & N letters. Lucky for me, they both have given names that start with M, so I only "have" to do the M once. Where I'm stumbling at is choosing a fabric color. I also want to use their Household (SCA thing) colors, which are purple, blue and silver/white. I think I've settled on the "correct" purple and blue floss, I'm still waffling on whether to use white or silver floss for the heart, but it's deciding what color the fabric should be that has me baffled. I thought it would stunning done on black, but I'm afraid that the blue (a dark blue)won't show up very well. I really don't trust my own sense of color all that well at times and this is one of those times. If it helps or matters any, I'm thinking of doing it bellpull style, with the M done in purple, the heart in white/silver and the N in blue. Any suggestions? I won't say I'm game for anything, but almost!

Thanks, Tegan

Confederate gray - has a tinge of blue in it which would set everything off . . .

hmm...would the confederate gray show off the white or silver well enough? This is a tough one. I was thinking a lavendar/lilac might be nice, but I don't know. Two suggestions: take the floss to a fabric shop and just lay it against different colors and see what you like best. Or, if you like the drama of black, I don't know what's charted, but you could "fill in" unstitched parts with a contrasting color. Lots more work for you, but would solve the problem of the colors showing up.

I envision the blue, purple and white on a silver/grey background. If the silver is slightly darker (tarnished?) the white would show well. How about something like this (NAYY):

Perhaps one of the opalescent fabrics will have the silver you need?Addie
