So, what is everyone doing today?

I did bring a project to camp with my GS - I spent about 10 seconds on it. Otherwise, I was doing gimp or beads or......

He certainly thinks so! At least he's not the first stop. Those are at 6:05 to 6:10. For the first week or so, he's getting up at 5:45 AM for a shower and breakfast and other getting ready rituals.

He won't be too badly off. Doors open before 7 AM and the ride is about 10 minutes. It is a HUGE school. Worse will be those mornings I get him up even earlier for hockey practice before school. Those days will start around 4 AM.

That's worse than obscene.

4 AM is a time to GO to bed, not to get out of bed.

I hiked yesterday. We went about 5 (well, 2 1/2 each way) miles along the ridgeline between the Klamath & Rogue River forests. Lots of flowers, dappled shade, bright sunshine and some beautiful views, with the added treat of a few thimble berries at the peak of ripeness. Then I came home & made hamburgers & cooked frozen veggies for dinner. We've been waiting for a replacement piece for the BBQ that we couldn't find locally so had to order directly from the company. Today is our anniversary (24 - no applause, please - well, maybe just a little) :-))) so DH took the day off as a vacation day. We're running a gazillion errands & then going to dinner. I don't need gifts & jewelry for my anniversary. I've found the man of my dreams, all I ask is dinner OUT! :-)) I also don't expect him to remember it. It was his idea to take the day off (he surprised me the first year he did it, but I do put it on the calendar in red letters so neither of us loses track of what day it is. :-)) Right now, I'm looking out the dining room window, watching a tree squirrel collect acorns. Why is it that tree squirrels are cute, while ground squirrels are annoying pests??? :-)) Liz from Humbug

My policy was that if I had to be up at 4 AM, I would simply stay up. I could always catch a nap in the afternoon.

Hi All,

Back from the world of beyond etherspace - so started to check in on all you lovelies at RCTN. Saying hello, and replying. Hope all of you are doing well - both RCTNers I knew (so to speak) before my hiatus, and those who've joined since.

Today - well, am working on a Blackbird Designs sampler for a wedding gift (I modified it a bit), getting my home office more set up - YEAH - the machine works well, and the builders aren't making a mess in this room (forget the rest of the house), and hoping to head to the gym in a few minutes. After hearing from school trying to correct being incorrectly dropped from my pharmacology class. Tonight - should be knitting a baby-sweater that I started recently. Newest way of working - needlework in the day, knitting when it's later and the DH is either wanting some company, or the light isn't so great.

At least for today I'm done babysitting the carpenter that was in replacing the trimwork in the Dining & Living Rooms - which was taken off when the drywall was removed, and the hardwood floors taken up, and then all of it sanitized and air-scrubbed and dehumidified for 4 weeks after the little leak seen in the exterior stonework turned out to have gone down to the hardwood which then warped like crazy and then....well you get the picture. Oh, did I mention the little bit of mold on one of the studs and the sheathing (cleaned and or replaced). Or that we're hoping to have the interior done in about a week, so then all the furniture piled up all over can be put back in place. After they also re-insulate the basement level rooms that got affected (yeah gravity and water running down), and, well, find the downspouts for the exterior they took off when reflashing the windows (had to remove then replace stonework). And then... Part of today I'm spending putting all the documents together to send to my DB (the attorney) so he can get started on our action against our builder. What fun.

So - sorry about being away from RCTN for so long. I have missed all the various discussions and etherfriends. I'll try not to babble too much...for now

What - the early hour? Around here a bunch of kids doing AP classes, with extra stuff end up in classes at 7:30 am. A million years ago I remember my Honor English class in 9th grade was at 7 AM - it was the only way the school could fit it in for kids with really full schedules. Meant a 6:15 school bus. Then in 10 grade we had split shifts (waiting for a new school to open ) so I was on morning shift - meant 7AM to 2 PM school, or 10 AM to

5PM for the afternoon kids.

Some things don't really change!

Now that's obscene. Horrible - those 5:00 AM practice slots. DH gave up one of his adult teams when they switched to a league with 12:30 AM starting times - a little hard to get off the ice at 2AM and go to work at 7!

Hey Karen - I know not as much as I've missed all of you. Even DH had been asking when I'd get back in touch with the RCTN'rs . Guess he missed the relaying of my outlet for needlework chat, and other more esoteric discussions.

Sounds like a great day. It's tooooo muggy here to do much outdoors - IMHO.

Sounds like you're having a lovely day - and best wishes for your continued happiness, no congratulations ;^)

Good question. I guess it's because you don't have to avoid the tree ones?

My high school was too cheap to hire a foreign language teacher so we "borrowed" one from a neighboring district (that school used our Voc. Ag. instructor & facilities) which meant German was at 7:30 am. I got through two years of it--all that was offered--though I really can't even think in English at that hour of the day. The poor lady finally retired and suffered a stroke while she was cleaning out her classroom for the last time. She has recovered somewhat, thankfully.

Hey Brenda -

You can bet that the last couple of weeks the field manager is being extremely nice...and accomodating. As the environmental remediation guy and I discussed - the builder is definitely "waiting for the other shoe to drop"

- I'm sure they're nervous that legal action is forthcoming. In the meantime we're getting them to fix everything, to the best detail we can - before the lawyer stuff starts. What fun. DH just keeps saying "Free House" - or at least half a house...

Not planning on going away again... So glad to have my baby (the lovely big MAC graphics machine) up again. Just ordered some upgraded system stuff. DH is just kind of funny about my having not done this sooner - but with all kinds of goofy workers in the house I just wouldn't take a chance with all the equipment getting damaged. It was kind of weird only using the net when DH had his work laptop home, or when at school, etc. Kind of disconnected but I got a lot of stitching & knitting done - actually finished my first two baby sweaters.

Thanks again for saying I'm a bright spot - aside from the bright red hair that doesn't happen too much

Thanks, Pat. The 4 weeks of 2 air scrubbers and 2 dehumidifiers going on the main level of the houase were pretty awful. Couldn't be on that level for long - especially with the 20' ceiling in the nearly adjacent family/great room which opens into the kitchen. Very noisy. We're getting used to the look of the lovely hefty plastic sheeting curtains - as those rooms had to be isolated for the removal of the very moldy hardwood, the drywall below the windows, and then the cleaning & drying. But, it's getting better.

DH had me move my dewing machine and 6' counter height cutting/work table, and a 4' table for the machine - plus the huge ironing station into our bedroom so I could work on that stuff. We spent a lot of time going upstairs to the bedroom - to get away from the noise. It'll be better in a couple of weeks.

Glad to see so many of the familiar "faces" posting away. I'm trying to work my way back and catch up on the news, or not so news.

Thanks aga> Sounds like sheer hell, Ellice - welcome back!
