So, what is everyone doing today?

That opportunity came over the horizon today and it is now in the oven baking. Certainly tasted formidable uncooked, will let you know, the people who will be there will judge it quite honestly. Thanks again.

Leave really good cookies out for the elves, Fred. Doesn't that usually work?

Ouch - I see big, jumbo thermos, subscription to Caribou Coffee or Starbucks, and lots of Polar fleece - not to mention stitching/knitting time. Also - fingerless gloves. I found some really fluffy hockey with goalies polarfleece - bought a bunch and I'm just thinking of doing some little lap throws - assume you'd like one?

Your ice time sounds like we do occassionally. I think DH is going to try out for reffin' some "real" college - although he didn't go to the ECAC tryouts (we know a bunch of those guys, and we were astounded at guys we know who have no clue thinking they could get on the ice with them).

I'll be thinking of ways for you to stay warm! Excitement here is that the CAPS new facility isn't open, so part of their camp will be at the rink which is literally 6 minutes from the house. We figure to be hosting some post practice liquid refreshment parties - as most of our friends with the org (read that broadcast guys, etc) all live at least 40-50 miles from here on the completely other side of DC. Hmm - now I've forgotten - but it seems that we not too long ago met some body that Jon used to coach who is playing with the Monarchs. I could have that wrong... But I'll try to get it straight.

You betcha!

DS will be skating for 2 teams - the high school and Flames. Maybe ditto for DD - Lady'Canes and house.

Cool - I wonder who it is? We didn't get to as many games as in years past, but the Monarchs are a great group!

HUGS. I've missed you so!

LOL - I guess the auto spell check didn't catch that typo. How about "sewing" machine? I have Puckster the springer spaniel to take care of any "dewing" ...or is that doooo-ing? :^)

So long as Mom controls the checkbook to pay the participation fees, my kid would be channelled into some sport that practices at a less ungodly hour. Softball, take it or leave it.

Wake me at 4 AM and you weren't dying before you did, you *will* be dying as soon as I'm awake enough to realize it's 4-frigging-AM.

Must be relatives.

Re Gourmet magazine I just buy it or any of the other cooking magazines once in a while. The recipe came from a 60th anniversary special issue of favorite recipes.

I found it really hard to figure out what I wanted to make this time. Too many recipes and too little time for preparation/shopping. I was thinking one of these years I am going to have to work my way through all of those recipes and weed out all the bad/never going to make it ones. Then cook all the rest and put the ones I would actually make twice in a folder with plastic covered pages.

200 pounds later ...

Lol - I am keeping a binder with recipes in it, on which I have written my reviews, or mentioned "This is the cheesecake recipe I made for so and so's birthday that you all liked" against the day I'm not around.

I had a favourite from Gourmet, Frozen Orange Souffle, masses of Cointreau, genoise, orange butter cream, cream etc. It used to take me three hours to make from start to finish, but it was better done a week or so before it was needed and frozen, so that was a distinct advantage. I really must try and find it, I know I typed it up somewhere. It was from the mid-70s.

I think it the "farmer's (grand) daughter in me. I don't mind it too much. Now, DH on the other hand wouldn't voluntarily get up for 4 AM for any one other than DS and hockey.

Gad that sounds wicked. Reviews are a good idea. I always forget who I made something for, and I don't want to keep making the same thing for the same person. There's another recipe on the back page of this same edition that has about 5 layers with cream filling and a decadent looking frosting. Mine would never look quite the same of course, not having access to a food stylist, but it really is tempting. Some day. Meanwhile I should probably focus on rhubarb recipes. I put in 3 plants this spring and they're huge. There's a site which I think is called rhubarbinfo.com or something like that which has about a hundred recipes but I haven't looked through them yet.

Time to go back to work (sigh) Dora

I still think the bestest way to have rhubarb is stewed with honey and served warm over vanilla ice cream. Or warm for breakfast!

The best way to have rhubarb is to serve it to someone else.
