I hereby vow to work at least 20 minutes a day on that impossible needlepoint!!! Ha.....I'll settle for picking it up once a week....I HATE that thing but have too many hours already invested and would like to finish it this year.
I also vow to get my last project framed. I've been putting it off because of a half-hatched plan to paint that room etc., so colors are up in the air.
I won't start anything new til the above are completed.

UPDATE - I'm working on it at least an hour a day. Laying it all out on the dining room table have made things a lot easier than trying to work off an ottoman and sitting in an easy chair. I moved my daylight lamp to the table too - all is not perfect tho, I had to pull out a worng color last night. grr.
Got to the wallpaper shop to pick out a border and paint - will order, then to the framer! after the cr. cd. closing date, that is.
Good for you! It is such a relief to get to the end of a project which, even if not that large, has taken a long time to complete. I'm within a week of finishing an xs project which I've had around probably about 5 years or so .... I ran out of thread for backstitching last night though so there goes another month. I also have about a week left before I finish the foreground on my np iris panel. Then it's background all the way baby. Dora

I feel your pain because background isn't my favorite thing.
Maybe in the future you will like what I do. I'm not allowed to do any of the fun parts of a needlework canvas until I do at least a few lines of the background. That way I get slightly less bored.
It never works out that there isn't any background left to do when the pattern is done, but it's a little help for me.

That's a good idea. Like working 20 min on a UFO before working on the fun project you really want to do. WRT backgrounds - I've also started doing more interesting background stitches. Seen some recommendations to use more open ones - cover a bunch of ground with some pattern type stitch, rather than the complete coverage of basketweave - but of course, that depends on how appropriate it would be for the piece.

I did different blue backgrounds on all my fish pieces. I talked it into myself that it looks like water, but the real reason was just to do something other than plain basketweave.

Well I agree basketweave would be painful. Patterned long stitches can be quite lovely. Waaaaay back when I took my np class the instructor was quite insistant on us trying different stitches besides basketweave for our backgrounds although they can be too dominant to serve as a background, and some stitches are quite fussy. Even the random long stitch isn't entirely random when people do it well judging from my pattern photo.

I did them when I moved to this house 11 years ago and I haven't a clue which is which, or where they came from. There are 5 of them that I put up on one wall, all framed and matted in identical frames, plus one of dolphins on a nearby wall.
When I get a chance I'll try to take some pictures of the wall they hang on and post it.
