Urgent Help needed!!

OK, guys and gals,

I have dome to the well of all stitching knowledge.

I have been trying to find a font that will go well with the Hinzeit NAVY chart, so that I could personalize it for DS's retirement on the

24th. I have not had any luck, the words are to long etc.

So, to plan 2. I will embroider the Navy emblem, and put his name, rank and years of service below it. It is 79x79 stitches, and if I stitch like crazy, I can have it to the framer next Monday or Tuesday, and she will have it for me when we leave on the 21st.

This is a very old chart. It says to use 3 strands of DMC, and that makes sense to get the solid coverage.

My question to all you experts is that it calls for 2 strands of DMC280 Metallic Gold to do the outer rim.

Is that still available? What would you recommend instead? Hopefully it is something I can find at Joannes/Michaels or my LNS...or maybe I already have it!

Many thanks in advance for your help!!

Gillian

I *know* I should have thought about this earlier, but the original plans went askew a little.

A Kreinik #4 braid! :) That's pretty much my go-to substitute for the DMC metallics that were on the spools. I doubt you'd need to double up the braid, but you'll know as soon as you start stitching. Good luck and flying needles! Heather

I know there is some #4 in my stash...hopefully a nice gold. I will try it single, but if I am using 3 strands of floss, it may look better doubled. It had crossed my mind to mix two strands of cotton floss with one metallic. I may have to play...if there is time!

Thanks a lot, Heather. It is nice to talk to someone with the same name as my middle name LOL (although as a kid I wanted to be Erica).

I would use DMC Light Effects in E3852 or E3821. The E 3852 is a little more brassy than the E3821 but looks closer to DMC 680 on my monitor. The Joann's close to me carried Light Effects in both those colors and it is a small store.

I have 2 spools of Gold 282. If this will be a good substitute, let me know and I'll stick it in the mail tonight.

I just want to say thanks to all who gave ideas. As it happens I went on an emergency run to Michaels and Joannes. I found the Light Effects, and also the DMC282. They looked alike in shades and I remembered favorable reports about the Light Effects.

I have to say that, with the aid of Thread Heaven, the LE is so easy to use. I have a bunch more to stitch tomorrow and Monday. Maybe it will be done in time for framing. Most probably not. I only thought of this last Tuesday pm/.

Many thanks to all who have given me input. Isn't that what we are all there for??

Hugs and Happy Stitching to all

Gillian
