Way OT: DS's wedding, for those interested

Okay, okay, y'all can stop pestering me now! :)The rehearsal and rehearsal dinner went well. Very informal, had subsandwiches, veggie tray, potato salad and strawberries & whipped creamon angel food cake.The wedding was scheduled to be held at DS's house. Bret had workedall spring and summer getting the yard and house worked on inpreparation for The Big Event. Alas, Mother Nature intervened. Itpoured at his house that morning and one of the groomsmen said theyhad trouble getting their trucks out of the yard. Luckily, we had aPlan B, which was to get married at our small, rural church.Picture-taking was supposed to be in a park but then we had to lookfor someplace with a roof. We moved it to a gazebo in town and justas we got there it quit raining. I got some nice pics there (hope toget some posted this week, will let you know when they're up) and thenwe all moved to the church.DS's wedding was, in one word: short. Took all of 17 minutes. It wasvery nice, though. They did something I'd never heard of: a sandceremony. Rather than a unity candle, they had sand in their colors(pink & green) and poured them together into a vase, the idea beingthey are joining their sand/lives and it would now be very hard toseparate the two. The vase will be sealed with wax.There were just enough guests to fill our little church.They also had a balloon release following the service, which wasnice. The weather by this time was beautiful and we were able to takethe family pictures in the churchyard.The reception was good and they had a really good DJ, who played anice mix so there was someone dancing the whole time. They used smallcakes as centerpieces for each table, all made and decorated by hermother! She said she's not going to make another cake for alooooooooong time! lolAs they say, "A good time was had by all". :)They didn't go on a honeymoon. They are going to try finish theirhouse, first.I'm now a MIL! :)Joan

But there again, that hardly makes an EMIL - it makes a thoughtless DIL. Certainly not fair, happily I had two daughters as well as a son and my daughters had in one case inlaws who live in Montreal and in the other a MIL who was not competing.

My DIL had her mother babysitting my younger granddaughter while she worked but I really did not mind as I was still working and very busy anyway.

Guess I was lucky.

Don't forget too, the day does come when said grandchildren are flying on their own and they visit according to what they want to do. So there is hope lol

No, you're not. Your EDIL sounds like a control-freak, almost to the point of being abusive. That's one of the first things abusers do, is separate the abused from their support network. I do hope your DS is able to have somewhat a life and interests of his own.
