Weird needles

Along with the lap frame I bought at the rummage sale, there was a paper of needles of a type I have not seen before. They are very heavy, 3.5 inches long and about the weight of a size 18 tapestry needle, with sharp points and with an eye which looks like a narrowed (or squished) letter G.

Anyone know what these are?

No, they are not the spiral eyed ones which were noted the other day. The top of the eye is only slightly curved downwards, there is a slot about 1/8" deep, then the lower portion of the eye has a decided inwards hook at the top. Obviously, it is something similar to the spiral eye, but not identical.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Maybe doll maker needles or upholstery needles. Another thought is sailmakers needles

They sound like needles that my dad used bout 30 yrs ago in his upholstery business. Think he used then for some form of cording sewing, only thing is the size that is throwing me since the only ones I've seen and used were at least 6 inches min. up to

12 inches. If my memory is good they were used when doing things like buttons on chairs/couches and with the eyelet it made it easy to quickly undo to keep the tension on the tuff look.

I remember to thread them easily, you would hold the needle at 90 degrees to thread while inserting together then lay the needle flat on thread and gave it a pull to lock them together.
