What da Ping Thing was like....

As I said - (now that this post appeared), DH is a different mind set on school/education. His folks wouldn't have thought of study skills courses or SAT Prep classes or the ilk. Mine pushed me to keep aiming higher (as long as it was local - which is an entirely different story) for my college choices. Of course it helped that I was accepted at my eventual alma mater at the end of sophomore year - I already had a good spot, I had toured a few big places and knew I didn't want that.

DS's grades are good enough for many good schools, just not the cream of the crop places. He is working harder than he did last year and he's now asking about a plus year someplace where he can "get the stuff I won't be getting in AppleTown" (AT is local, less than complimentary nickname for our home town.) So there is hope....

And insurance is cheaper with a "good student" discount. We pay half the "good student" rate...they come up with the other half if they have the grades, and substantially more if they don't. When it hits them in the pocketbook, there's a bigger motivation.

We've used that one - I suspect it is the major impetus behind the school effort.
