Question about a Poole Pottery 'PKT' Peanut vase..

Hey there people!



I've been given a Poole Pottery PKT Peanut vase which I am now trying to date.



I assume it was designed by Alfred Read, but I'm not sure who painted it. Next to the Dolphin stamp on the bottom are some painted letters. These look like "E/D PKT", though the E could be an F or a G.



Can anyone tell me what this might mean, and hopefully whether the vase dates from the 1930s, 1950s or another period?

Ivor. I believe that style of dolphin (mark) would indicate the revised mark of post-1956. The vase is the Freeform PKT design. The only Poole painter's mark (ED??) which comes to mind is Pat Dightam. But I'm not sure if the ED?? mark actually refers to the painted (although I'll stand corrected if it does).

I'd suggest a visit to your local library and have a look, or take home, the book 'Poole Pottery' by Leslie Hayward and Paul Atterbury. I know this book has a fairly comprehensive list of back-marks and painter marks, plus good background on Poole pottery and the factory history. Hope this is some help.

Ronnie is correct, the mark was used from 1956. They really did produce some very stylish wares.
