hey Jenn, as you now seem to be somewhat of an expert on this... got any hints/tips/advice for those of us who've yet to master those darned curves? j.

Hi Jeanne, I hope this is OK? If you want pictures, let me know! jennellh My method for curved piece sewing: (1) - accurate cutting - 28mm rotary cutter and a single layer of fabric (2) mark the centre point of the curves - both pieces (I find that a quick finger crease just before sewing is enough) (3) Align the crease marks and pin shallowly - by this I mean =3D catch only a couple of fabric threads (4) Match the edges of the two pieces - left and right sides - and pin at right angles about 3/4" away from the seam line and the presser foot (5) Using an awl or sharp point of seam ripper - gently realign the start of the seam line under the presser foot - Hold onto bobbin&needle threads and sew approx 4sts (needle down) - take hold of the centre pinned section and tug gently
- use the awl again to position the edges of the 2 pieces and sew slowly - continue using the awl as an aid to keep the edges together - remove the centre pin and repeat the gentle tug with the 2nd half of the curved seam. (6) Check that the end of the seam is aligned and the sides match before sewing. Sewing machine set up: shorter stitch length - 2mm and needle down position. I use a 1/4"foot with edge guide and the single needle plate. Pie shaped piece on the bottom ...... the seam can be pressed in either direction or it can be pressed open.
