Been ages since I've posted. The quilted wall hangings from AFrican fabrics are piling up as I work toward our charity exhibition in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania Feb. 5 (in case anyone is in the neighborhood!) It will benefit GRANDMA-2-GRANDMA - the grandmothers ("bibis") raising their AIDS-orphaned grandkids. The local ex-pat quilters' group, Stitch 'n Bitch (don't you love the name!) have created and ar donating a quilt for us to auction. But everything else has been made by me using fabrics our bibis and other local people have made. Been a challenge, creating my own designs and trying to make everything different. Appreciated Roberta's handy tip to just turn the piece instead of worrying about binding -- worked great! Tho increasingly I am leaving raw edges for a more primitive look. Appreciate those who've either purchased batiks the bibis make (and I'm going down next week and bringing back more if you want some) or so generously agreed to make light-weight quilts for our many orphans and bibis.
